Letters of WKU English faculty member Gordon Wilson to fellow faculty member Frances Richards and her sister Mary Ellen Richards, Franklin, Kentucky. The folklorist and accomplished amateur ornithologist writes effusively about his life and post-retirement work, including his autobiography and his linguistic and bird studies in the Mammoth Cave region. He reports various bird sightings and counts to Mary Ellen, discusses upcoming speeches and publications, shares news of his family, friends and health, and thanks Frances for gifts of phonograph records. Includes notes from his wife written after his death.

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3381. Letters of WKU art professor Ivan Wilson to WKU faculty member Frances Richards and her mother and sister. Most are short notes of thanks, affection or get-well wishes; he asks her to critique his 1960 note “on matters of punctuation and tenses.” Lengthier 1970 letters describe his and wife Emma’s retirement to Hazel, Kentucky and their many contacts with friends from WKU. Includes a photograph of the Wilsons on their 50th wedding anniversary, and Richards’ account of a tribute to Wilson by WKU’s class of 1952.
