Ideological Infection In Dostoevsky's "Demons", Sam Joshua Reed
Senior Projects Spring 2017
This project is an exploration of ideology in Dostoevsky's 1871 novel "Demons." In this work, Dostoevsky portrays the connection between utopianism and extremism. This project explores how romantic and political idealism becomes the foundation for violence and terrorism, through the relationship of the 1840's liberal Stepan Trofimovich Verhovensky and his nihilistic sons.

MEMORY PAST EXPERIENCE EMBODIED EMBODY BODY CONTAIN CONTAINER HOUSE HOME HEAR SEE BE TO BE BEING (NOT) BE WANT TO BE DESIRE FAILURE FUTURE
The danger of nostalgia in opposition with the intrinsic importance of memory. The shift of memory in relation to time, space, place, identification, and experience. How one moves through the world, the act of continuously orienting and (re)orienting. Building connections through shape, form, light, color, image, and recollection. Building a house. Being a house. The queering of memory coupled with the craving for a feeling of home. Building oneself and one’s community from the ground up …

Senior Projects Spring 2017
A collection of poems that explore the relation of the individual to the world, a world of violence, complex systems of nature and industry, and beauty. The contemporary experience is filtered through the lenses of alchemy and metallurgy, drawing upon my personal history and readings in an attempt to make something completely atemporal.

From The Fair Labor Standards Act To Individual State Minimum Wages: Measuring State Minimum Wages And Economic Performance, Adam Charles Carafotes
Senior Projects Spring 2017
This project will analyze the historical foundation of the minimum wage in the United States prior to the first federal wage enactment in 1938 to the current federal wage as well as individual state wages. This paper will offer a historical overview along with economic ideology in determining appropriate minimum wage floors on state and federal levels of the economy. The question of raising either state or federal minimum wages has drawn great importance in the eyes of our country and in the eyes of economic thinkers, policymakers, and individuals. The minimum wage has been the backbone for working individuals …

Senior Projects Spring 2017
Sometimes we build our own prisons and those prisons go through a crucial stage at which time, outside forces such as other people can help retrieve you from the depths of your own imprisonment. Unfortunately, these outside forces usually end up acting against you, sending a person deeper and deeper into the trap they laid for themselves. These outside forces or people usually do not know that they are contributing to the building of a person’s prison. These people act in direct response to something or even anonymously through things such as surveys. Most of the time people dance around …

Orpheus' Poesis: Internal Narration In Book 10 Of Ovid's Metamorphoses, Ivan Rothier Ditmars
Senior Projects Spring 2017
In book 10 of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, the poet Orpheus appears and begins to sing a series of myths. This project explores the relationship that Ovid establishes between this poet’s own life and the songs he sings. I argue that Orpheus’ sequence of stories effects a process of self-reflection which, when analyzed from beginning to end, communicates a marked progression of the poet’s attitudes. Within a universe defined by mutability, Orpheus becomes a paradigm for internal change, for self-motivated transformation.

1. Finding a Willingness to Disappoint
Steel, latex paint, wood. An object that attempts to make a self-sufficient structure from a series of failed attempts. Hardware shows as an answer, but over and over, an answer isn’t enough. More than anything, each answer is the sum of its shape and weight, not its’ prescribed function.
2. My Own Sliding Self-Respect
Steel, enamel, latex paint, wood, light fixture, colored light bulb, extension cord. Scale is a measurement of self-worth. Some people know exactly how much space they take up, others lack a sturdy shape in their volume. And light takes up …
