The Local History Collection contains documents that are related to the borough of Brooklyn, ranging from the 1600s through the 2000s. The collection is divided into two series: miscellaneous subject files and oversized files. Both series are organized alphabetically by subject, and a full list of the subjects present in this collection is provided in the Collection Outline.

Finding Aids

The Hazzard Shoe Company was founded by Robert P. Hazzard about 1906. The company bought out Emerson Shoe Company in 1931. The company went out of business about 1973.

The collection includes business and financial records of the Hazzard Shoe Company of Augusta and Gardiner, Maine. Also includes records of the Emerson Shoe Company.

James Gazaway Ryals, Jr. Collection: Finding Aid, Bethany Latham

Contains primarily correspondence by JSU employees with descendants of James Gazaway Ryals, Jr., first president of the State Normal School (Jacksonville, Ala.), around the time of the University's centennial (1983). The remainder of the collection is made up of photocopies of newspaper and book sections which provide details on Ryals and his family, along with handwritten notes.The tangible materials this finding aid references are located in the Library's 10th floor Alabama Gallery Special Collections.

This collection consists of correspondence from Wiley Nessmith to his wife, Martha Ann Nesmith written during the Civil War from 1862-1865. Also included are typed transcripts, published and unpublished materials on the Nessmith family, and correspondence between Franklyn Hatch and the Nessmith family concerning the letters.
