Feeling Neoliberal : The Politics Of Affect In The Age Of Greed = 新自由感覺 : 貪婪年代的情感政治, Lisa Duggan
《新自由主義下的新道德》研討會 NEO-MORALISM UNDER NEOLIBERALISM INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Genealogies of neoliberalism generally trace the intellectual and institutional histories of ideas and policies from Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman, through the global practices of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. But consent for neoliberal practices is generated as much through invocations of fantasy and feeling as through ideas and institutions. This lecture will trace the paths of neoliberal feeling through the persistent fantasies of racial colonialism, to the gendered practices of marital kinship and entrepreneurial desire. Neomoralism's many variations will be examined as central projects in the continuing global afterlife of neoliberal affect.
Human Disease - Unintended Globalization, Christopher J. Dellana
Human Disease - Unintended Globalization, Christopher J. Dellana
Celebration
Before man was exchanging goods and ideas, he was exchanging germs. As such, the spread of infectious disease constitutes the first truly global phenomenon and, therefore, marks the beginnings—primitive though they may have been—of what today we have finally termed ‘globalization.’ The global spread of disease, then, proves that globalization is not new and that its origins were the result of a different narrative than the ones we read from globalization theorists; it further demonstrates that the modern conception of the phenomenon is only now so well recognized because the accelerated and efficient processes that inform its daily activities have …
The Effects Of American Involvement In Northern Uganda's Conflict With The Lord's Resistance Army, Karen J. Norris
The Effects Of American Involvement In Northern Uganda's Conflict With The Lord's Resistance Army, Karen J. Norris
Celebration
This project explores the impact of American governmental and non-governmental actors in the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) conflict in northern Uganda and southern Sudan, particularly the U.S. military, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It also examines the efficacy of these various forms of intervention, specifically the deployment of U.S. Special Forces tracking the LRA, and the initiation of various soldier reintegration, governance, and sustainability programs organized by USAID and NGOs such as Invisible Children. Additionally, this project seeks to uncover underlying geopolitical objectives, such as gaining alliances in the 'Global War on Terror' …

Telling The Whole Store: Native Americans And The Development Of Urban Spaces, Paul T. Fuller
Telling The Whole Store: Native Americans And The Development Of Urban Spaces, Paul T. Fuller
Graduate History Conference, UMass Boston
This paper places the subject of urban Indians in North America within the historical reality of their existence and emphasizes the need to rework current assumptions about Native peoples. Not only were Native peoples intimately involved in the act of building up villages, forts, and trading posts – which would eventual evolve into the cities that dot the continent today – but they have also very much been a part of the urban scene in major cities since the middle of the twentieth century. The cities around Puget Sound would not have been able to exist without the direct aid …
American Indian Activism And The Rise Of Red Power, Rachael Guadagni
American Indian Activism And The Rise Of Red Power, Rachael Guadagni
Graduate History Conference, UMass Boston
Recent historical scholarship has determined that the socio-political environment of post-World War II America provided the necessary catalyst for Native American activism which when combined with the socio-political atmosphere of the civil rights era lead to the development of the Red Power Movement. In the thirty or so years immediately following World War II America witnessed profound social and political change. Initial fear of communism lead to strict, pro-capitalist Indian legislation resulting in the termination of hundreds of tribes and the relocation of countless Indian people. From this same environment rose strong leaders, including many veterans, influenced by Cold War …
