The Mousetrap, Robert Clements, Tim Phipps
The Mousetrap, Robert Clements, Tim Phipps
Theatre Productions
Agatha Christie's classic story, The Mousetrap, opened in 1952 at the Ambassadors Theatre in London, England and is still playing in theatres around the world nightly. The longest running play or musical in history, it is Agatha Christie at her best.
The setting is the 1940s in post World War II England. A young married couple has inherited a large manor house in the English countryside, which they have decided to open as a guest house. On their first day of business their curious and interesting guests arrive along with a massive winter storm confining everyone to the house. …

Romeo & Juliet, Rebecca M. Baker, Robert Clements, Tim Phipps
Romeo & Juliet, Rebecca M. Baker, Robert Clements, Tim Phipps
Theatre Productions
Using the timelessness of this classic, Baker has set the play in Miami in the 1930’s. She reasons that this setting will celebrate the power of the play, as well as enhance the youthful feel for the audience. Along with using a relatively more modern setting all the while maintaining the Shakespearean structure, the script contains slight adjustments in language to help the audience better understand the plot of the story.

"A Serious Ethnological Exhibition": The Indian Congress Of The Trans-Mississippi & International Exposition Of 1898, J. Brent Etzel
"A Serious Ethnological Exhibition": The Indian Congress Of The Trans-Mississippi & International Exposition Of 1898, J. Brent Etzel
Library Faculty Publications
“It will be either a colossal success or a colossal failure, and time alone can decide which.”
This was the prediction of Edward Rosewater, editor and publisher of the Omaha Daily Bee, regarding his city’s Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition, held from June to November 1898. The few historians who have studied the event agree that the exposition was a huge commercial success. The fair drew over 2.7 million visitors to a remote and economically depressed city during wartime, and those who purchased stock in the exposition corporation gained over a ninety percent return on their investment.[2] The exposition …

Religiosity, Secularism, And Social Health: A Research Note, Thomas S. Mach, Gerson Moreno-Riano, Mark Caleb Smith
History and Government Faculty Publications
This article is a research note addressing various theoretical and methodological issues in the measurement and analysis of religiosity and secularism and their relationship to quantifiable measures of social health in advanced and prosperous democracies. Particular attention is given to cross-national frameworks for studying religiosity and secularism as well as to the conceptualization and statistical analysis of these notions for research design. Various procedural suggestions regarding the use of comparative frameworks are presented to assist in the development and implementation of future studies gauging the impact of worldview commitments upon societal wellbeing.

Applying The Reformational Doctrine Of Christian Vocation To Our Understanding Of Engineering As A Sacred Calling, Timothy R. Tuinstra
Applying The Reformational Doctrine Of Christian Vocation To Our Understanding Of Engineering As A Sacred Calling, Timothy R. Tuinstra
Engineering and Computer Science Faculty Publications
Students at Christ-centered universities often find themselves wrestling with whether or not God can use them as effectively in the field of engineering as He can in a field such as pastoral ministry or foreign missionary service. This question exposes an underlying dualism that has been fostered in the minds of 21st century believers causing them to view certain professions as “secular” and certain others as “sacred”. This paper describes how the biblical doctrines rediscovered during the Protestant Reformation have liberated Christians to study and even excel in fields such as engineering and technology. I describe first how dualism …

Beyond Da Vinci: The True Bride Of Christ, John Ingram
Beyond Da Vinci: The True Bride Of Christ, John Ingram
Alumni Book Gallery
The History of mankind is very cyclical. How often has it been said, "history repeats itself". Since time immemorial a repetitive theme in the human drama is Gnosticism, a teaching that special hidden knowledge leads to spiritual enlightenment. Gnostic myths have also focused on the sexual union of gods or goddesses with humans. The recent furor over the fictional novel and movie, The Da Vinci Code, has once again challenged the authenticity of the Christian Gospel, and brought new focus on Gnostic myths. Readers and movie-goers are encouraged to accept the dubious writings of "lost gospels" and reject the …
What Are You Thinking?: The Stuff Of Wisdom In A Postmodern World, John Ingram
What Are You Thinking?: The Stuff Of Wisdom In A Postmodern World, John Ingram
Alumni Book Gallery
Have you sometimes uttered the phrase, "What am I thinking?" when you have done or said something foolish or embarrassing? Are you thinking all the time or are some thoughts blocked because they are too painful? Is thinking passe' in this postmodern world?
What Are You Thinking? deals with the lack of focus and understanding of our thoughts. Thinking is not just an added feature of an evolutionary process; it is unique in the human psyche. Contrary to present day skepticism regarding life and the universe absolute truth exists and we can come to know the one who is the …
