Such A Deal Of Wonder: Structures Of Feeling And Performances Of The Winter's Tale From 1981 To 2002, Elizabeth Marie Burt Jul 2005

Such A Deal Of Wonder: Structures Of Feeling And Performances Of The Winter's Tale From 1981 To 2002, Elizabeth Marie Burt

Theses and Dissertations

Structures of feeling represent the interaction between personal lived experience and fixed social values and meanings, which are found in interpretations of works of art. Studying various interpretations of any play in performance can provide a point of access into a culture because the choices made in the production can be compared to each other and to the written text and then reveal how the theatrical company views particular issues within their own time period. This study looks at productions of The Winter's Tale between 1981 and 2002 at the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Using numerous versions …

A Web100-Dummynet Testbed For Education And Research In Transport Layer Protocols, Steven Bassi

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

With recent developments in technology broadening the complexity and performance issues of computer networks, more work is being put into studying the behavior of network protocols under various new environments. As it stands today, TCP is the dominant protocol for communicating over the Internet. It has been shown to be reliable and efficient in the relatively low-bandwidth networks it was designed for. With the increasing availability of high-speed optical, wireless, and ad hoc networks, more research is being done to study new TCP variants that will perform well under these new environments. In order to perform such work, researchers require …

The Interaction Of Transcutaneous Heating And Helicopter Flight Simulation Performance, Joanne N. Caldwell, Mark J. Patterson, Nigel A.S Taylor Jan 2005

The Interaction Of Transcutaneous Heating And Helicopter Flight Simulation Performance, Joanne N. Caldwell, Mark J. Patterson, Nigel A.S Taylor

Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences - Papers (Archive)

It is well known that elevations in body temperature can impair both physical and cognitive performance. For helicopter pilots, the major heat source during flight originates from solar radiation. However, when nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protective clothing is worn, metabolic heat generated during the pre-flight period, and during the mission, is trapped, exacerbating thermal strain. In this project, the hypothesis that elevations in body heat content would degrade flight performance was tested. Helicopter pilots completed three, two-hour flight simulations under three levels of thermal strain, administered in a balanced order. Thermal strain was induced using a water-perfusion gannent, worn …

"Boxes": Exploring Gender Identity Through Performance, Desirée Dianne Rowe

All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects

The performance. Boxes, is a piece that entangles multiple identities, which attempt to dislocate norms and ideals the audience has already established. During the performance comment cards were distributed to audience members for their reflection on the overall message of the performance. The cards were collected and evaluated …

Recovering Ancient Ritual And The Theatre Of The Apache: A Journey Through The False Consciousness Of Western Theatre History, Marla Kathleen Dean

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation examines past cultural influences that have shaped theatre historians' perception of ancient Greek and contemporary Native American performance. It suggests that through a recognition of these influences, which have long tempered the Western narrative of theatre, ancient and Indigenous performance can be reviewed as similar forms of a lived exchange. The study tracks the formation of certain beliefs and assumptions within performance history through Roman, early Christian and Renaissance cultural identities. It notes the misrepresentation of oral and popular theatre within theatrical scholarship through its reliance upon the written remains of the ruling classes and confronts the notion …
