Guides to Manuscript Collections

This collection is composed of three scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings about various events in Huntington, concert programs, photographs (mostly unidentified and of family), such ephemera as ticket stubs, postcards, and greeting cards, and monthly reports of his work at the post office. Topics covered in the clippings and ephemera include trains, Huntington history, images of women, and local news and obituaries. Most significant about the collection is the unique assortment and number of items present, capturing a snapshot of life in early to mid-twentieth century Huntington, West Virginia and America.

This collection consists of one scrapbook of clippings and photos and one folder of ephemera. The scrapbook includes extensive clippings and a limited number of photos of the 1937 flood in Huntington, West Virginia. Ephemera includes a copy of “The Belle of Barcelona: A Musical Comedy in Three Acts”, a 1929 program for said comedy at Huntington High School, and a ticket, pamphlet, clipping, and envelope about the 1976 American Freedom Train in Huntington.

This collection consists of copies of quartermaster reports for the 5th Regiment, West Virginia Infantry, including monthly property accounts, clothing, stationery, hospital supplies, ordnance materials, animal return and acquisitions, food and fuel receipts, issued supply registers, and correspondence. Due to the nature of copied materials, the legibility and completeness of materials can vary, but is overall high.

The records of the Huntington League of the Association of Junior Leagues International consist of newsletters, yearbooks, annual reports, program materials and other published materials, scrapbooks, and production books from the Junior Leagues's programs. The focus of the collection primarily covers the League's publications and papers from their programs and activities. The inclusive dates range from 1929 to 1997, however, most materials are from the 1950s through the 1970s. The Huntington League's children's theater papers begin ca. 1929 (Series IV), and the cookbook can be found in the publication "League Lines".
