A Conspiracy Revealed: The Divine Conspiracy (By Willard, D.), Paul A. Johns, Steven J. Sandage Dec 2000

A Conspiracy Revealed: The Divine Conspiracy (By Willard, D.), Paul A. Johns, Steven J. Sandage

HDFS Educator Scholarship

When I (Paul) first obtained Willard’s book The Divine Conspiracy, I could not help but notice the attractive painting of two ripe plums on the cover. “What a nice touch,” I thought. “A fine painting—a little color, artistic shapes, and angles. It grabs my attention.” But after feasting upon the wisdom behind this finely decorated cover, I came to appreci-ate the symbolism of fruit on the tree. In The Divine Conspiracy, Willard gives maturing Christians an opportunity to reconceptualize their place in the kingdom of heaven. As a fitting completion to Willard’s wisdom-filled “trilogy on the spiritual life” (p. xvii), …

Evangelical Episcopalians And The Church Of Jesus In Mexico, 1857–1906, John Steven Rice Dec 2000

Evangelical Episcopalians And The Church Of Jesus In Mexico, 1857–1906, John Steven Rice

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

Shortly after the adoption of the 1857 Constitution in Mexico, a small group of Mexican priests left the Roman Catholic Church and attempted to establish a national catholic apostolic church in Mexico. This movement became known as the Church of Jesus. With the help of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States it continued until 1906 when it ceased to be independent and officially became a mission project of the American Episcopal Church. Historians have placed the burden of failure of the Church of Jesus on factors in Mexico and have not taken into account the party strife within …

Building For The Future: Worldview Foundations Of Sand And Rock, Michael Goheen Oct 2000

Thus, the Christian faith is not a religion that can be slotted into the private domain of human life. Rather it is a comprehensive worldview embodied by the Christian community. The Christian community has always had to embody the gospel of the kingdom in the context of a culture that holds other comprehensive beliefs. Three cultural contexts can be discerned in church history, all of which bring possibilities for and dangers to a faithful …
