The Soul Of The Firm (Nairobi, Kenya), C. William Pollard
The Soul Of The Firm (Nairobi, Kenya), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
In this speech at the Daystar Symposium (Nairobi, Kenya), Pollard notes that whereas the "theory of the firm" is often defined by the objective goal of maximizing profit, the "soul of the firm" should be considered the people the organization employs. Corporate success, therefore, requires that profit be considered alongside the development of character.

The Dao Of Qoheleth: An Intertextual Reading Of The Daode Jing And The Book Of Ecclesiastes, R. Christopher Heard
Religion Division Faculty Scholarship
Of all the world's literary works which may appropriately be labeled religious classics, the Hebrew scriptures and the Daode Jing stand out as two of the most popular across cultural and linguistic boundaries. One might suppose that the cross-cultural popularity of these classics would have brought them into frequent contact with one another. However, not much seems to have been done to relate the Bible to the Daode Jing in a constructive way. In this article, I seek to begin redressing this lack of conversation by offering a reading of the biblical book of Ecclesiastes using the Daode Jing as …

When Paradigms Collide: The Modernist/Conservative Controversy In American Protestantism, Dan Hauge
WWU Honors College Senior Projects
Theological debate has always been an inherent part of the Christian tradition. Indeed, Christianity as a distinct religious tradition grew out of such debate, as the first followers of the risen Christ argued with their fellow Jews about the nature of God's redemption of humanity and the role of Jesus of Nazareth in that redemption. Since then, Christians over the last two millennia have continually tried to define these two central issues, in an effort to understand and explain the characteristics of God, the work of Jesus Christ, and the significance of this for his church. Needless to say, Christians …
Nature Among The Mormons: An Ecocritical Approach To Mormon Literature, Gail D. Ballard
Nature Among The Mormons: An Ecocritical Approach To Mormon Literature, Gail D. Ballard
Theses and Dissertations
Increasingly, environmentalists have focused on Judeo-Christian tradition as the cause of Western culture's ecological crisis. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the charges against Judeo-Christian tradition and to show how the revealed doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provide possible solutions to environmental challenges. The resulting Latter-day Saint environmental paradigm will be superimposed on selected Mormon literature to determine how effectively the doctrines taught by Church authorities filtered into popular Mormon culture.
Despite the inspired teachings of Latter-day Saint prophets, Mormons remain unimpressive in their environmental practices. My research will show that while …
