Theological Nuance In The Synoptic Nature Miracles, Mark Schuler
Theological Nuance In The Synoptic Nature Miracles, Mark Schuler
Doctor of Theology Dissertation
In a previous work we have questioned such conclusions and argued instead that it is between superstition and skepticism where one meets the world view of most in the first century and further that reported miracle phenomena were hardly "common" when consideration is limited to first-century material.
With this study, we complement our previous work by positing that miracles are essential to the Gospel. A definition of "miracles" would be unnecessary were it not for their essential Gospel traditions (oral and written narratives) and to the Gospel itself (δ ́uναμις γ ̀αρ θεοῦ ’εστιν ε’ις σωτηρ́iαν--Rom.1:16). Miracles are not peripheral.

(Excerpt)
Christian corporate worship has biblical foundations. This is so, of course, in the most obvious ways: at the heart of the meeting the book called the Bible is read and then interpreted as having to do with us. Sometimes, as ceremonial preface to that reading, the book is carried about, even enthroned. Furthermore, the text of the Bible provides the source of the imagery and, often, the very form and quality of the language in prayers, chants, hymn texts, and sermons. Psalms are sung as if that ancient collection were for our singing. Snatches of old biblical letters are …
Coles Creek Culture And The Trans-Mississippi South, Frank F. Schambach
Coles Creek Culture And The Trans-Mississippi South, Frank F. Schambach
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Certain Lower Mississippi Valley (LMV) traits, mostly Coles Creek ceramic traits, but also traits such as temple mounds and certain mortuary patterns, appear at Late Fourche Maline and Early Caddo sites in the Trans-Mississippi South, particularly at sites in the Red River Valley in northwest Louisiana and southwest Arkansas. Explaining how these traits got there and understanding their role in the development of Caddo culture is one of the basic problems in the archaeology of this area. The conventional explanation has long been that they represent a full scale intrusion of Coles Creek culture into the Trans-Mississippi South. Thus Michael …

Archaeological Investigations At The De Zavala Point For The Proposed Penn-Texas Shoreline Improvement Project, Harris County, Texas, Daniel R. Potter
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
In May 1990, archaeologists for the Center of Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, conducted a surface survey and subsurface testing program on De Zavala Point, a small tongue of land sticking out into the Houston ship channel in Harris County. The locality has been selected for the construction of a large-vessel docking facility. Survey and testing activities were performed in order to evaluate known archaeological sites and to locate any additional archaeological remains which might be affected by dock construction and operation. In addition, the state of preservation of the important De Zavala historic cemetery (41 …
Archival And Historical Research For The San Pedro Creek Channel Improvement Project: The 1989-1990 Investigations, Herbert G. Uecker
Archival And Historical Research For The San Pedro Creek Channel Improvement Project: The 1989-1990 Investigations, Herbert G. Uecker
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
The history, cultural resources, and archaeological potential of a portion of San Pedro Creek in the vicinity of the Five Points intersection in central San Antonio were investigated and evaluated. Archival sources were consulted, personal interviews conducted, and an on-site inspection of the area was made. Based on the archival research, the history of the area was divided into several distinct periods. Data from primary sources are summarized and cross-referenced in an appendix.

Archaeological Testing For A Proposed Landfill Expansion (Phase Ii) City Of Del Rio, Val Verde County, Texas, Jack D. Eaton, Ronald W. Burkett, Herbert G. Uecker, James T. Abbott
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
During September 1989, a pedestrian survey was conducted within a I~S-acre tract acquired by the City of Del Rio, Val Verde County, for a landfill expansion project. The surface reconnaissance recorded one prehistoric site, 41 VV 1251. As a result, recommendation was made for Phase II subsurface testing.
The Phase II subsurface testing, which included a geomorphic study, was accomplished during February 1990. Cultural resources were recovered indicating presence at site 41 VV 1251 from the Late Paleo-Indian period to the Late Archaic period. However, the site was determined to be almost totally deflated. The geomorphological tests verified this assessment …
Sky River, Nan Hannon
Sky River, Nan Hannon
Ahsahta Press
Nan Hannon’s Sky River, first published in 1991, is a work that cleaves hard, archaeological substance to fragments of emotion and intellect. It is a poetry in which Hannon, bent above the detritus of our ancestors, reflects upon the passage of time and the timelessness of the heart.
