A commonplace among English historians today is the importance of English ties with Aquitaine during the later Middle Ages. For some three centuries, historical events came to link the destinies of these two countries and peoples who otherwise differed strikingly in economy, language and culture in general, with lasting consequences for both. Alexander Vii And The Private Builder: Two Case Studies In The Development Of Via Del Corso In Rome, Dorothy Habel

The histories of the construction of Piazza del Collegio Romano and of Palazzo D'Aste, both in Rome, located in close proximity to one another and realized during the papacy of Alexander VII Chigi (1655-1667), are reconstructed on the basis of archival documentation. In the case of Piazza del Collegio Romano (1659-1667), the study reveals the involvement not only of the Jesuits of Collegio Romano but also of Prince Camillo Pamphili and Alexander VII. The history of the piazza project, and especially the relationship between Pamphili and Alexander VII, suggests that the project grew to include the development of Palazzo ...

This book presents a rare "health-seekers" diary on the Santa Fe Trail in the 1850s. Larkin visited New Mexico at a time of intensive transition, and witnessed several significant events on the trail and in early Anglo-occupied New Mexico. Few such diaries exist, and Larkin's in one of the earliest and most robust health-seeker diaries known.
