This paper proposes an Internet based e-learning environment for building ensemble playing proficiency for musicians. With the growing availability of broadband connections, the Internet offers new opportunities for musicians to play together synchronously from disparate locations. An e-learning environment for ensemble music performance would facilitate and simplify the creation of ensemble performance skills by offering a number of services for musicians. It would emphasize the learning of tacit musical knowledge particularly important to improvisational music performances.
