Living Toward One Another With The Word Of God, Harry G. Coiner

Many forces are at work in our society today which combine to make personal interest an abiding motivation. The pleasing art of being social has assumed the doubtful coloration of the slick professional impersonality. People seem to become "involved" with people only "in a role" and not in a personal and meaningful way, not so their "heart feels it;” as we say. The drive for individualism is bred into us from our American heritage, and we have become a breed of people skilled in the devices of keeping away from people while living with them and working with them and …

"The languages (Greek and Hebrew) are the sheath in which this sword of the Spirit is contained; they are the casket in which this jewel is enshrined; they are the vessel in which this wine is held; they are the larder in which this food is stored ….”
Christ’S Use Of The Old Testament With Special Reference To The Pentateuch, Victor A. Bartling
Christ’S Use Of The Old Testament With Special Reference To The Pentateuch, Victor A. Bartling
Concordia Theological Monthly
In the preparation of this essay I was determined to let the Gospels give us the answer to Part I concerning our Lord's attitude toward the Old Testament. It seems to me that there is much that we can gain for our own guidance and inspiration from such a study. Part II deals with the question of the authorship of the Pentateuch. It is appended in the hope that it will help to put current discussions on the Mosaic authorship of the first five books of the Bible into a Biblical frame of reference.
What Does "Inerrancy" Mean?, Arthur Carl Piepkorn
What Does "Inerrancy" Mean?, Arthur Carl Piepkorn
Concordia Theological Monthly
This paper is primarily a terminological study rather than a theological one. It inquires into the meaning of, rather than into the justification for, a term that has become a staple of dogmatic discussion in our own and other denominations.

An Excellent Ministry, Adalbert R. Kretzmann
Concordia Theological Monthly
As some of you know, the days of prep school and seminary have a way of fading into idealized dawns and dusks with nothing much in between. Those were the days before Synod's abdication to coeduation, and celibacy had not yet lost its battle in these sacred halls. Engagements were completely unheard of until the day after calls were assigned. Dean Fritz's cryptograms on the summons card had been completely decoded and transferred to the secrecy of the fuse box outside his office door. He referred to it constantly so that there would be no doubt in his mind that …

Theological Education And The Special Ministries, C. Thomas Spitz
Concordia Theological Monthly
There have been two major developments in the recent history of theological education in America which have been of special interest to the special ministries. Both have been stimulated greatly by the agonizing reappraisal and introspection in which most theological schools and denominational departments of theological education have been engaged regarding their purpose, function, and curricula.

Theological Education In East Asia, Arthur M. Ahlschwede, Arthur C. Repp
Theological Education In East Asia, Arthur M. Ahlschwede, Arthur C. Repp
Concordia Theological Monthly
In response to the 1962 All-Asia Conference of missions affiliated with The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, the Synod in convention in Cleveland, Ohio, encouraged the Board for World Missions to "upgrade its seminaries" in Asia and to "bring recommendations on the establishment of a graduate seminary in the Orient to the next convention of the Synod" (Resolution 2-22, 1963 Proceedings, p.98). The Board for World Missions, therefore, sponsored a second All-Asia Conference at Baguio City Philippines (Oct. 19-29, 1964), to which 26 persons were invited, including representatives from six Asia countries and training centers, the India Evangelical Lutheran Church, …
The Self-Understanding Of The Church, Martin L. Kretmann
The Self-Understanding Of The Church, Martin L. Kretmann
Concordia Theological Monthly
The theme of the 1965 convention of The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod will be the words of our lord to His disciples when He appeared to them on the evening of the day of his resurrection: "As the Father has sent Me, even so I send you." Special attention will be given to the latter phrase in devotions and essays, and the whole convention proceedings will center in the concept that the church, the body of all who believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him as their lord and Savior, is sent into the world on His mission, to …
