This project is an outgrowth of a larger project that involves the eventual compilation of a series of Italian madrigals into a modern performing edition. The purpose of this project was to transcribe and edit a madrigal from Carlo Grossi’s L’Anfione musiche da camera or per tavola (Venice, 1675) in order to better understand and be able to perform an Italian madrigal as it might have been done in the late seventeenth century. The Five Peaks Screen of Korea’s Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) is one of the most iconic works of its time. Nevertheless, the remarkable visual impact and cultural significance of the Five Peaks Screen evades systematic scholarly study, partly because of its generic classification as folk art. In this paper, I will resituate the Five Peaks Screen in the artistic tradition of East Asian landscape painting. We all experience the same world, yet this experience manifests itself differently within each individual. Innumerable works of art, pieces of literature, musical compositions or creations can occur at any time within the private mind of an individual, but would never happen unless outwardly expressed. In this oral presentation I will address my artistic body of work, entitled "The Extimate Mind." In this series of digital illustrations —specifically portraiture—I explore the inner workings of the mind as it is revealed through exterior gesture. In the summer of 2012, I made history as one of the first female athletes to compete for Saudi Arabia in the Olympics. This experience greatly impacted my life, leading me to pursue a body of creative work exploring the nuanced public and private perceptions of my newfound role as a “trailblazer” for women in Saudi Arabia. Until the 20th century, museums were designed mainly for scholars to conduct research on rare and endangered objects. In the past few decades, museums have broadened their outreach to the general public to include people of all ages and demographics. Many museums now offer children’s programs that include hands-on activities as a way to stimulate a love for learning in a more relaxed and independent fashion. At two institutions targeting the same demographic, the Los Angeles Zoo and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art [LACMA], children are able to learn about endangered animals and rare works of art through …

John Wilson, dean emeritus and professor of religion at Pepperdine University, has accumulated a collection of over 1200 coins from the Holy Land dating from the Persian Period (c. 5th century) to the time of the Crusaders (c. 14th century). Wilson’s interest in these coins has given many Pepperdine undergraduate students the opportunity to study and research the coins’ significance in historical, religious and artistic context. From Wilson’s generosity, I, a senior art history major at Pepperdine, have been given the opportunity to analyze four coins from his collection dating from 620 AD to 680 AD.
