New-York Tribune

New York Tribune, Vol. XV. No. 759, Saturday, March 29, 1856. New York Tribune is an American daily newspaper established by Horace Greeley in 1841. From the 1840s through the 1860s it was the dominant Whig Party and then Republican newspaper in the U.S. In 1924 it was merged with the New York Herald to form the New York Herald Tribune, which in turn ceased publication in 1966.

The Western Mercury (Sandwich) may continue the British Canadian. The two newspapers shared a business office. On page 2 of the Feb. 25, 1858 issue of the Western Mercury, the editor writes “All parties indebted to this office for the 1st vol., British Canadian or for printing, or advertising, are requested to make immediate payment.” The newspapers also share the same motto: Our country’s welfare first, and then, we stand by honest party men.
