This learning module provides instructors with an experiential field guide for introducing students to the United Nations Inner Development Goals Framework through self-guided mindful smelling activities and reflection prompts related to botanical fragrance. The interdisciplinary nature of this module allows for use or adaptation in a wide range of courses looking for outdoor, place-based and self-guided experiential learning to explore the role of botanical fragrance for people, plants and pollinators. The overarching goal is to deepen students’ connections to their senses (and scents) of self, place and planet through exploring botanical fragrance with mindful smelling. Work in Progress - In the Spring of 2023, I will endeavor to work collaboratively with students to develop an open textbook for the Art 26: UX Visual Design course. As this class has only been offered once in the past and in general the UX courses are new at Kingsborough there isn't an obvious single authority on the subject. This lesson plan is used for library instruction sessions for two First Year Seminar courses: HAF90 and FAF101. Both sources are for students studying fine and performing arts. This lesson plan focuses on two topics relevant to fine and performing arts students. One, closely looking at and interpreting a work of art. Two, finding information about that work of art using the Library and the Web. Additionally, students will explore information about careers in the arts.
