Correspondence, legal documents, and sundry material related to the Meador, Richards, and Johnson families chiefly of Simpson County and Logan County, Kentucky. Also includes documents and correspondence from the King and Garrett families of Robertson and Sumner County, Tennessee. The attached 1842 letters are from R. M. Latimer to Caroline Garrett reporting the death and burial of her brother, George King, in Cuba; and to Caroline Garrett from another brother, John, discussing tensions with Mexico.

"Mack" Muncy to Eliza Ranson, written from Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Kentucky while serving with the 159th Depot Brigade. He writes of drills, vaccinations and social activities. He also refers to desertion and suicide among his comrades and to the treatment of conscientious objectors by the military.

Brief World War I letters from Wilson Sprowl to family members in Monroe County, Kentucky while he was stationed at Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky and Camp Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan. Also, a welcoming letter from King George V to American troops, and a billet for a bunk on the U.S.S. Florida that includes instructions for troop conduct.

The poems were chiefly authored by Elkton, Kentucky native David Morton, but the collection includes works by Kalfus Kurtz Gusling, Anna Blanche McGill, and Robert Burns Wilson.

He writes of his travel to camp, his inoculation and processing for military service, and of seeing “flying machines,” probably at Wilbur Wright Field near Dayton, Ohio, while en route.
