Zora Neale Hurston And The Emergence Of Self, Cheryl Y. Williams
Honors Theses
Abraham Maslow in his work From The Farther Reaches of Human Nature made the statement:
Every human being has (two) sets of forces within him. One set clings to safety and defensiveness out of fear, tending to regress backward, hanging to the past, afraid to grow... afraid of independence, freedom and separateness. The other set of forces impels him forward toward wholeness of Self and uniqueness of Self, toward full functioning of all his capacities, toward confidence in the face of the external world at the same time that he can accept his deepest, real, unconscious Self (45-6).

England's Experimental Colony: The First Settlement In Australia, Frances M. Casazza
England's Experimental Colony: The First Settlement In Australia, Frances M. Casazza
Honors Theses
Almost 200 years ago, the first white settlers stepped on the shores of Australia. They were not there for freedom or opportunity, but rather for punishment. England's prisons were overflowing and their solution was sending the convicts away and forgetting about them. Australia's history and first eighty years of development began in this shadow. From 1787 until 1867 the English Government transported convicts to their penal colony in Australia. In all over 160,000 convicts were sent. The initial settlement and the reasons behind it were uniquel. England's attempt to establish a self-sufficient convict colony was the firs tof its kind. …
Lewis Carroll's Dissection And Restructure Of The Social Self, Pamela F. Pecora
Lewis Carroll's Dissection And Restructure Of The Social Self, Pamela F. Pecora
Honors Theses
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass, should not be categorized as literature primarily for children. These stories are works of art whose complex nature demans intellectual interpretation. Such a study is not meant to take joy away from the innocent and pleasurable surface of Alice's adventures. Instead, the usefulness of probing deeply into this literature is to reveal a fundamental lesson that Carroll imparts to his readers. After studying the feelings prevalent in English Victorian society, Carroll's personal feelings as illustrated through his themes, and his devices and techniqu eof writing, I have …
Southern Baptist Convention Media Missions In Africa: Cross-Cultural Communications In A Pluralistic Environment, Ian Robert Cosh
Southern Baptist Convention Media Missions In Africa: Cross-Cultural Communications In A Pluralistic Environment, Ian Robert Cosh
Honors Theses
The purpose for research was to analyze and synthesize the accomplishments of the Southern Baptist Convention's media missions work in Africa and to document the essence, magnitude and complexity of the task facing media missionaries in Africa. Research conducted by the writer at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in June 1986 revealed that the formal study of media missions is comparatively new, and therefore not well documented. Much of the up-to-date information available is in the form of audio cassette tapes and video recordings. Research papers written by students at the seminary, within the past two years, frequently cite sources at …
The Paradoxical Relationship: Evangelical Christian Church-State Relations In The Soviet Union, Rhonda Clark
The Paradoxical Relationship: Evangelical Christian Church-State Relations In The Soviet Union, Rhonda Clark
Honors Theses
Throughout the history of the Soviet state, its leaders have dealt with the question of Christian evangelical religion in varying manners utilizing anti-religious propaganda, legislation, and interpretation of this legislation. Dealing with religion in terms of balancing ideology versus practicality has always been a complex question for these leaders. Since the Stalin era, the state has utilized a system of registration to control the church. This registration produced a paradoxical leadership role for those in charge of the registered churches.
In the past thirty years, these recognized leaders of registered groups have been a liaison between church and state, a …

Eudora Welty: A Writer For The Heart And Mind, Gerrie Krudwig
Honors Theses
Eudora Welty is a writer whose works appeal to many readers. This appeal is in part based on her artistic use of themes and settings as well as her creative style of writing. These three things combined lend to her work an excellent quality which has been recognized by publishers and fellow writers.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss Welty's creative style of writing, her prominent themes, and her use of settings or the importance of place in her works. The last section of this paper discusses in detail one theme which I have chosen to fasten on …
