The Liturgy: The Context Of Worship In The Context Of Media, Richard Handschin
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this study is an attempt to gain perspective on the current disinterest in the organized church especially on the part of the young. To do this we intend to study the relationship between the worship of the church and the communication media, feeling that media are the fundamental fact in the development of social interaction.

Vespers, Its History And Theology, Thomas N. Green
Bachelor of Divinity
When the Church of Christ worships it is inevitable that the worshipers use Forms, or Rites, or Orders, for only in this way does the worship become meaningful to all. One of the Orders which the Church Catholic has used for centuries is Vespers. This Order is being used more and more in the Lutheran Church today, and hence it is necessary to make a careful study of the Form.
The thesis which follows takes up just these problems, namely, the history and theology or the Order or Vespers.
The Practice Of Hymn Singing During The Sixteenth Century, Theodore Paul Klammer
The Practice Of Hymn Singing During The Sixteenth Century, Theodore Paul Klammer
Bachelor of Divinity
If this work of restoring an intelligent appreciation and usage of the Lutheran musical heritage and traditions is to continue and become increasingly effective, it becomes apparent that every minister of' the Church, whether pastor, choirmaster, or organist, must to a greater or lesser degree study and become acquainted with the musical principles and usages of the Church in her golden age, the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. This thesis is an effort in that direction.

An Evaluation Of The Nineteeth Century English Hymn Tune For American Lutheran Worship, Elmer N. Witt
An Evaluation Of The Nineteeth Century English Hymn Tune For American Lutheran Worship, Elmer N. Witt
Bachelor of Divinity
Lutheran hymnals continue to increase in size and in choice of hymn tunes. A brief study of The Lutheran Hymnal (1941) of the Missouri Synod shows that the composers of the 380 tunes of the hymnal come in the main from three countries: 18 from America, 59 from England, and 58 from Germany. This trend is borne out in the other Lutheran hymnals published in America during the first 40 years of this century, to perhaps an even more marked degree. If so many of these tunes are coming into the Lutheran Services from extra-Lutheran sources, we also do well …
Christian Worship Of The Ante-Nicene Church, Harold Krenz
Christian Worship Of The Ante-Nicene Church, Harold Krenz
Bachelor of Divinity
"Worship is man's response to God's revelation of Himself." In this sense worship consists of divine revelation and public response. This paper is devoted to the latter aspect of worship. It is the purpose of this paper to study the early origins of man's outward response to the revealed truths of Christianity; how the form of Christian worship was influenced by the Old Testament worship, how it received its indelible color from the Blood of Calvary, and how it began to develop into the highest and most beautiful of the aesthetic arts by the time the Christian religion became a …
The Musical Rendition Of The Psalms In The First Temple, Lawson Fackler Knight
The Musical Rendition Of The Psalms In The First Temple, Lawson Fackler Knight
Bachelor of Divinity
The song of the congregation is a devotional form of musical art. The singing, to be sure, is not that of mechanical perfection; there is not to be found the delicate nuances of the artist; but when the entire congregation lifts its heart and voice in the praise and adoration of almighty God, the loving Father, there is a spiritual quality in the music that makes the hymns a magnificent setting for the preaching of God's word. The hymns build up to the climax of the sermon; they frame the sermon in beauty. The singing of hymns is an important …
