This is a textbook for THRT 210: Script Analysis at Winthrop University. The publisher has withdrawn the rights to reprint the text I have been using for several years That motivated me to create my own textbook. During 2014-15 I am working with a theatre major who took THRT 210 with me last year. She helped me with editing and writing of the content. I will use it with students in draft form the next time I teach the course and revise it and expand it until it is ready to offer to a publisher for national distribution.

The model of assessment will demonstrate how to align the assessment of production activity with learning goals set by accrediting bodies, the institution, the department, and the specific program. This alignment insures that measurement of student learning is standardized across the students’ entire experience in the program (courses, performances, rehearsals, technical preparations, etc.) Examples of indirect and direct measurement instruments will be presented.

A Dull Enigma: Historians' Analysis Of Gilbert And Sullivan's Impact On The Development Of The American Musical, Andrew Vorder Bruegge

Historians of musical theatre have been ambivalent when assessing the historical significance of Gilbert and Sullivan upon the development of the American musical. Historical narratives typically jump from The Black Crook to Friml, with only passing reference to G&S (and Offenbach, and Strauss). Gilbert and Sullivan (encouraged by D’Oyly Carte), however, anticipated not only most of the formal elements, but also many of the creative/production processes of the American musical genre.
