This is an environmental survey my supervisor and I conducted pertaining to the landscape of government engagement with Community Engaged Learning in Canadian Universities.
Community Engaged Learning (CEL) is a valuable type of experiential learning characterized by collaboration between student and community partner/ stakeholder for the creation of a mutual outcome.

At the Forest City Film Festival, Madeline was responsible for social media and marketing, while at Life*Spin she compiled a business proposal for a Community Land Trust (CLT) in London, Ontario. As a mental health advocate, Josh is passionate about advancing mental health reform and increasing mental health literacy in their communities. Feeding from this passion, Josh worked with Active Minds Western (AM), a USC-regulated mental health advocacy club, as the Education Commissioner this year. Josh decided to use the second half of the term in this role as a Community Engaged Learning (CEL) project as they recognized the value in academically structuring and critically assessing their progress toward increased mental health literacy at Western University.

Devon founded The Art Education Program (AEP) started because of her interest in the transition into a post-secondary level of arts academics from a secondary school level. The AEP aims to ease the transition from high school into university by providing support to students interested in pursuing the visual arts. The outcome of the program became a lot more than a mentorship, but it became an opportunity for participants to critically engage with their own art practice, and professionalize their skills, and created a small community that fostered growth, creativity, and experimentation. Vicky Qiao spent the summer of 2019 working at the Canadian not-for-profit Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation, at the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care. While there, Vicky coordinated fundraising events and event planning, and organized a mini-documentary series interviewing 8 individuals, including senior residents and staff, to unearth their immigration stories and experiences. Through this community engaged learning course, Vicky developed strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills while engaging with a network of seniors to share their stories.

For Margaret's Community Engaged Learning project, she worked with the charitable organization Elephant Thoughts, a collection of teachers and volunteers who work together with Indigenous schools in Canada and internationally to teach summer courses. Margaret was placed in Chisasibi Quebec, on the picturesque shores of James Bay. For the month of July she taught French as a third language in a local high school and herein presents photos and reflections on the experience.

While at the Walrus, Betty worked in the Events department for two months, and at JKUAT Betty worked with other Ivey students to organize a case competition. Cassandra's Community Engaged learning course took her outside of her home faculties of Science and Arts & Humanities to study with Professor S. Wei in the Faculty of Music. For her course, Cassandra became a member of the Viola Studio, and conducted extensive research on music history, aesthetics of music, and human evolution of music to combine her studies in music, SASAH, and genetics.
