John G. Fee And Berea College, Flora Jones Aug 1934

John G. Fee And Berea College, Flora Jones

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

When a student at Berea College it occurred to the writer that if the opportunity should ever present itself, she would be interested in knowing more concerning the early struggles and untiring labor of the men who had made possible such a great and unique institution of learning.

It is the aim of this paper to treat in a brief and concise way the development of this institution and in particular the part played by John G. Fee. Also it is hoped to furnish an account of the early struggles of this institution that will be of interest to the …

Benjamin Orr Peers: Educator, Auguston Page

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study is to bring to the attention of the public the contributions of Benjamin Orr Peers and to show his influence on the development of our present public school system in Kentucky.

Material, other than secondary, has been scarce and widely scattered. The greater part of the source material was found in the Transylvania Library, Lexington, Kentucky, and in the private collection of Miss Mary O. Gray, Louisville, Kentucky. Some valuable information was obtained in each of the following places: Paris, Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort and Bowling Green.

Isaac Shelby: Pioneer, Soldier, Statesman, Mrs. W. E. Shirley Aug 1934

Isaac Shelby: Pioneer, Soldier, Statesman, Mrs. W. E. Shirley

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study is to find the hidden facts of a man who has done much to illuminate Kentucky's greatness and glory. Yet little but his name is known to the youth of the land. As death has fixed the seal of glory on his life, history should assign to him his rank. Much of the data in this sketch has been gathered from source material.

Trends Of Municipal Expenditures In Second Class Cities Of Kentucky From 1926 To 1933, Howard Taylor Aug 1934

Trends Of Municipal Expenditures In Second Class Cities Of Kentucky From 1926 To 1933, Howard Taylor

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The increase of city expenditures was noticeable for the past two decades. During the depression there arose a greater demand on the part of both tax payers and city officials for some information concerning the costs of city government, what was responsible for the increase, for what municipal funds were expended, and where the cost of city government was headed.

The question of how expenditures in certain departments compared with those of other departments was also a pertinent one. Education suffered an enormous reduction as compared to what had been spent from 1928 to 1932. There was a wide-spread belief …

Superstitions Of Grayson County, Elza Fentress Jul 1934

Superstitions Of Grayson County, Elza Fentress

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

For this collection of odd beliefs to serve as an amusement to the curious is not the purpose of this treatment of superstitions. The end sought is not humor or satire. It is not the intention of the author to cast a reflection in any form upon persons who are inclined to be superstitious. A belief in superstitions is by far more widespread than most people would suspect. Is it not true that superstitions swayed the minds of people in earlier centuries? Are we not descendants of these people? We hear many of their songs; their laws were the forerunners …
