Federico García Lorca is considered as one of Spain's most important twentieth century poets. He was born near Granada to a well off landowner who loved the country and Gypsy cante jondo music. Growing up in this environment nurtured Federico's desire to appreciate his surroundings, music and the Gypsy culture. He took piano and flamenco guitar lessons. That is why many of his works are saturated with nuances and direct references to both nature and music. In his Poema del Cante Jondo one travels across Andalusia and penetrates into its folklore. The images depict an exploration of an expressive, abstract aesthetic that delineates visual content with symbolism: depicted by color, iconography, and form. The artistic intention underlying the imagery is to evoke emotional awareness of the possibility that chthonic forces of nature—the mysterious life force generated by earth and the universe—in contrast to man-made synthetic powers—technology, science, machines, war, and ideas related to control over nature—are manifested as a dichotomy of experience between female and male; the forces of nature as the female principle and synthetic powers as the male principle. Conversational phrases, dichos are verbal hallmarks from Mexican-Americans and familiar to the Hispanic culture through different versions. This folk wisdom is exposed through communication, tracing historical accounts of life, love, struggle, and ultimately survival among Mexican-Americans. I have started a series of paintings and collective art pieces focusing on Mexican-American dichos unique and familiar to the Rio Grande Valley. They are a cultural representation of life unique to this area, and combine the recollective spirit from not only myself, but from my family's accounts of these spontaneous conversational phrases.

The purpose of this creative thesis and study was to examine, through a comprehensive analysis of the processes, how an original children's play was conceived, written, and produced, using the play Enough of the Huff and Puff, as the study's basis.
