Senate Action On The Omnibus Statehood Bill Of 1902, Beatrice Arline Cottrell
Senate Action On The Omnibus Statehood Bill Of 1902, Beatrice Arline Cottrell
History ETDs
It is the purpose of this thesis to trace the Statehood Bill of 1902 through the Senate, giving a brief picture of the leaders and most active participants in the debates, presenting the major arguments of the two opposing factions, and relating the methods used to bring about the defeat of the measure. Through an examination of the parties and policies of the Senators who took leading roles in this life-drama, an attempt has been made to determine the extent to which politics, sectional interests, and personal concerns of the politicians were influencing factors in the dispute.

This, therefore, is an effort to disclose the motives, methods, and theories which determined and characterized Beveridge's statehood policy.
Shakespeare's Use Of The Ghost In His Tragedies, John Carl Burcham
Shakespeare's Use Of The Ghost In His Tragedies, John Carl Burcham
English Language and Literature ETDs
The purpose of this study is to set forth the idea, already conceded generally, that Shakespeare was a supreme dramatic artist; that he became supreme through creative genius that affected all that came under his magic hand; that the purpose of his creative efforts was to produce a poetic, or dramatic, illusion. And the focal point of this paper will be that the ghost in Shakespeare was, in his own mind, as much his own creation as was any other dramatic device he used.

Innovations In The Vocabulary Of Christopher Marlowe. A Dictionary Of New Words, Word Meanings, Forms And Functions, Urvin Rundle
English Language and Literature ETDs
The present study proposes to fill this gap in our knowledge of Marlowe’s attitudes by an objective study of the relationship between elements in his diction and the principal language movements of his time. Since these movements are all characterized by innovations of words, word-meanings, forms, and functions, our study resolves itself into an examination of such innovations in the language of Marlowe.
The Indians Of New Mexico In The Civil War, Mary Bewley
The Indians Of New Mexico In The Civil War, Mary Bewley
History ETDs
This paper is a study of the place of the New Mexico Indians in the Civil War and of their relationship to the governments involved. The part which New Mexico played in the struggle between the North and South was so overshadowed by the conflict in the East that little mention of it is made in general accounts. The Indian as a participant has received even less consideration.

American Public Opinion And The League Of Nations, 1918-1920, Jay G. Gentry
American Public Opinion And The League Of Nations, 1918-1920, Jay G. Gentry
History ETDs
The purpose of this thesis is to trace the character of American public opinion concerning the league of Nations during the period from December, 1918 to March 19, 1920, in which the issue of the League was one of the paramount subjects before the American people. In this connection attention was paid to the nature of the arguments presented, whether they were in favor, against, or only partially for the league, and whether each group remained steadfast to its preliminary view. Further, attention was given to the academic quality of the arguments of each group. The thesis itself has been …
The Indian In Southwestern Fiction, Ella Brice Morris Kennedy
The Indian In Southwestern Fiction, Ella Brice Morris Kennedy
English Language and Literature ETDs
To the writer of fiction who has his ear to the ground, the recent multiplication of books in Indian fictional literature in the Southwest offers both a hint and a challenge. For years the growth of Indian fiction in the Southwest was slow and its product unimportant, and this in spite of the fact that excellent examples were set by both Helen Hunt Jackson and Adolf Bandelier . Perhaps the primitive mind was thought too rudimentary for the complex psychological studies popular in the closing years of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth.

The other three versions, modern and written in poetic form, are: Alfred, Lord Tennyson's Idylls of the King, published in 1889; Edwin Arlington Robinson's Lancelot, published …

St. Louis In The Santa Fe Trade, Ruth A. Leeper
St. Louis In The Santa Fe Trade, Ruth A. Leeper
History ETDs
Many works have been written concerning the Santa Fe trade and the various traders who had a part in carrying it on; but to the writer's knowledge no one has written an account of the part which St. Louis had in this great commerce. Writers generally state the Santa Fe was the western end of the trail and Franklin of Independence was the eastern end. St. Louis was situated off the highway, as it were; and, although she might have participated in the trade, being off the highway, it is usually judged that her part in it was slight. The …
