The Nature Of Being, Byron Simmons
The Nature Of Being, Byron Simmons
Dissertations - ALL
There would seem to be differences which lie not in the natures of certain entities, but in their being. Take, for example, the difference between an actual and a merely possible dollar. This difference is utterly unlike the difference between a cat and a canary, a mountain and a molehill, or a table and a tablet. For these things differ in their nature. But an actual and a merely possible dollar need not differ in their nature. They might have exactly the same size, shape, weight, and chemical composition; they might well be perfect—perhaps even indiscernible—duplicates. Yet, for all their …
A Tactile Interface To Assist Older Adults In Finding A Roommate, Jia Guo
A Tactile Interface To Assist Older Adults In Finding A Roommate, Jia Guo
Theses - ALL
This thesis focuses on helping older adults find an ideal co-living roommate via physical interaction design. The literature review suggests that almost all of the existing systems and products for roommate-finding currently in the market rely on digital devices. For older adults, this is a problem because they are not proficient at using computers or other smart devices ("Tech Adoption"). A tactile (physical) interface is an appropriate interface for elderly users for a roommate finding product (Güldenpfennig and Fitzpatrick, 1). This thesis proposes a design intervention that uses a tactile interface to solve this problem. The resulting design creates a …
Multimedia Input Modes, The Modality Principle, And The Redundancy Principle For University Esl Students’ Learning, Yinan Liu
Dissertations - ALL
This study compared three multimedia input modes in the modality and redundancy principles (Mayer, 2009) in terms of university ESL (English as a Second Language) students’ learning and examined the applicability of the modality and redundancy principles for ESL students. Mayer’s modality and redundancy principles (2009) inform the design of effective multimedia lessons. However, the two principles originally stemmed from experimental studies examining students’ learning in their native language and did not include ESL students in the discussion. Based on the modality and redundancy principles, added on-screen text and graphics lead to an overload in learner’s visual channel, which undermines …

La Mujer Nueva Y El Erotismo En La Poesía De Concha Méndez, Kathryn Anne Everly
La Mujer Nueva Y El Erotismo En La Poesía De Concha Méndez, Kathryn Anne Everly
Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics - All Scholarship
Spanish poet Concha Méndez captures the essence of the New Woman International in her early poetry from 1920s Spain. Images of travel, adventure and the explicit description of female desire characterize her early poetry despite the oppressive social norms for women in an overtly Catholic Spain.
