A story of the loss of innocence for a soldier, his date, and all of the United Sates.
November 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to Vietnam, three young Marines take part in a “dogfight” – a cruel game on the women they invite to the party, wherein the soldier who brings the least attractive girl wins. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, she turns out to be more than he bargained for as she rewrites the rules of the game. A lesson in compassion, Dogfight begins as a rousing song and dance adventure and ends as …

Based on the smash hit animated film series, this live adaptation brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favourite ogre to the stage. In a far away kingdom turned upside down by the insecure and conniving Lord Farquaad, an ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue the feisty princess Fiona. Throw in a wisecracking Donkey, a fire-breathing Dragon, a Cookie with attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand and his name is Shrek. Perfect for children and …

The Sheridan Notebook is an integral component to a series of studies that seek to better understand (1) the impact of adult colouring on creativity and mindfulness, and (2) the educational potential of adult colouring. A growing volume of research suggests there is a noteworthy connection between mindfulness and creativity: mindful individuals through presence, openness, acceptance, and self-inquiry are able to adopt many perspectives and pursue multiple solutions when solving problems—characteristics held by highly creative and innovative individuals.
This book synthesizes adult colouring with the “In and Out” note-taking technique—developed at the International Center for Studies in Creativity—to provide students …

The Grand Hotel is bustling with eccentric and sometimes dubious guests: amongst them a fading prima ballerina being forced to dance again; a fatally ill Jewish bookkeeper who wants to spend his final days living in luxury; a young, handsome, but destitute Baron; a cynical doctor suffering from World War I wounds; an honest businessman going bad as he faces financial ruin and a typist dreaming of Hollywood stardom.
Behold these vibrant dramas as they spring to life in a whirlwind of music and dance. As the wealthy, poor, innocent, bitter, kind and cruel, all reveal their lifelong desires and …
Musical Behaviours: Algorithmic Composition Via Plug-Ins, Bruno Degazio
Musical Behaviours: Algorithmic Composition Via Plug-Ins, Bruno Degazio
Publications and Scholarship
The author’s recent software research addresses a deficiency in commercial musical composition software: the limited ability to apply algorithmic processes to the practice of musical composition. The remedy takes the form of a software plug-in design called “musical behaviours” — compositional algorithms of limited scope that can be applied cumulatively and in real time to MIDI performance data. The software runs on the author’s software composition platform, The Transformation Engine.

“Once You Arrive, Se Te Sala Todo” (Everything Is Salted): Latina Migrants’ Search For “Dignity And A Right To Life” In Canada, Rupaleem Bhuyan, Bethany Osborne, Janet Flor Juanico Cruz

This study explores how Latina women fleeing gender-related violence seek protection for themselves and their children under Canada's humanitarian laws. Rising emphasis on border control contributes to a growing number of forced migrants whose transnational movement is constructed as “illegal.” Migrants who fall outside legal migration channels are exposed to precarious conditions that can lead to further violence. Through interpretive analysis of in-depth interviews with women from Mexico and Central America, we explore how immigration policies produce gendered forms of “illegality.” We also highlight how women's migration in search for rights and protection represents a form of substantive citizenship.

Recently the movie industry has been advocating the use of frame rates significantly higher than the traditional 24 frames per second. This higher frame rate theoretically improves the quality of motion portrayed in movies, and helps avoid motion blur, judder and other undesirable artifacts. Previously we reported that young adult audiences showed a clear preference for higher frame rates, particularly when contrasting 24 fps with 48 or 60 fps. We found little impact of shutter angle (frame exposure time) on viewers’ choices. In the current study we replicated this experiment with an audience composed of imaging professionals who work in …
