The Awesome Responsibility Of Leadership (Chicago), C. William Pollard
The Awesome Responsibility Of Leadership (Chicago), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
In this address at the University of Chicago's Booth Graduate School of Business, Pollard reflects on the need for servant leadership among corporate managers. Such leadership, he contends, will be rooted in faith and oriented to the holistic development of those the organization employs.

Covington Aircraft Engines, Center For Faith & Work At Letourneau University, Paul Abbott
Theology of Work Project
Paul Abbott takes Matthew 6:33 to heart as he fulfills his calling to be a Christian businessman: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.” (Click here to explore what this verse says about work.) Since 1972, he and his wife, Betty, have been working at Covington Aircraft Engines, a company of 65 employees that runs on four core principles: integrity, dependability, affordability, and quality service. Since people’s lives are at stake, integrity is essential to their business.
The Awesome Responsibility Of Leadership (Romania), C. William Pollard
The Awesome Responsibility Of Leadership (Romania), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
In remarks delivered at Romania's Emanuel University in October 2013, Pollard considers the need for servant leadership, which he argues can never be divorced from faith and must be oriented to the production of spiritual as well as monetary capital.
Awesome Responsibility Of Leadership (Newport, Va), C. William Pollard
Awesome Responsibility Of Leadership (Newport, Va), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
Speaking at Christopher Newport University (Newport, VA), Pollard outlines his vision of leadership, arguing that the exercise of true leadership can never be divorced from questions of faith. This is because leadership is fundamentally about character development. When exercised in a servant-like manner it has the ability to create an organization that is as much a moral community as it is a profit-oriented institution.
Management As A Liberal Art (Seattle), C. William Pollard
Management As A Liberal Art (Seattle), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
In these opening remarks recorded for a fall seminar at Seattle Pacific University, Pollard outlines Peter Drucker's theory of management as a liberal art and details the ways in which it was implemented in the ServiceMaster organization. He also notes why such a vision is important for contemporary management education.
Making Room: A Place For Children’S Spirituality In The Christian Church, Heather Ingersoll
Making Room: A Place For Children’S Spirituality In The Christian Church, Heather Ingersoll
SPU Works
A relatively uncharted territory until recently, the concept of children as innate spiritual beings has garnered significant attention among scholars over the past two decades. Seminal studies by researchers provide practitioners with the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of the spirituality of children and their ability to seek and contemplate spiritual concepts (Ratcliff, 2007). The more that is learned about children’s spirituality, the more apparent it becomes that the Christian church in the United States generally fails to provide sufficient space for children to explore, develop, and share their spirituality. This potentially leads children to suppress or disconnect from …

The Hand Of Myron Eells In The History Of The Pacific Northwest, Michael J. Paulus Jr.
SPU Works
This paper explores the life and collection of an early Northwest collector, Myron Eells, and highlights his theological motivations for creating a historical record that is the basis for much of what is now known about the history of the Pacific Northwest in the nineteenth century.
Free Markets With Caritas: A Transformational Concept Of Efficiency, Bruce D. Baker
Free Markets With Caritas: A Transformational Concept Of Efficiency, Bruce D. Baker
SPU Works
The logic of caritas transforms conventional concepts of economic efficiency in a direction conducive to the health and sustainability of a market system, by distinguishing between economic activities which are additive or extractive toward the common good. The beneficent power of the market to serve human flourishing is based not in a morally tacit concept of economic efficiency as a cardinal good, but rather in a gift-bearing efficiency aligned with caritas. This thesis is explored through three business case studies: (1) patents related to pharmaceutical drug design and marketing; (2) “monetization” strategies in recent internet-based business models; and (3) …
A Divine Community Of Priests And Prophets: The Priesthood And Prophethood Of All Believers Motifs Considered Through Incorporated Trinitarianism, Raoul T. Perez
Theses and Dissertations
The "priesthood and prophethood of all believers" motifs are two theological perspectives which consider the function of all persons who make up the body of Christ to be as priests and prophets alongside their other callings. Historically though, proponents of the two motifs have neglected to interact them with one another; the priesthood motif simply casts Christians as priests and the prophethood motif depicts them solely as prophets. The perspectives have been siloed from one another, preventing a fuller understanding of both Christian identity and roles within the body of Christ. This thesis attempts to show how the two motifs …
