"Where Is My Attention?", Robin B. Levenson-Andrews
"Where Is My Attention?", Robin B. Levenson-Andrews
Proceedings of the New York State Communication Association
Attention is the key to all learning. Indeed, it is what will save our lives on a daily basis. In all my Communication courses, it is one of the first things I put forward as a question that students may ask of themselves as a check on their “internal considering.”
Philosopher/practitioner George Gurdjieff (1866-1949) called the constant rumble in our minds of random condemnations and re-imaginings of past events as “internal considering.” He felt it was detrimental to ourselves and our relationships with others; it is, I maintain, a constant “self considering” that takes us away from the present and …

This collection focuses on students who earned a degree in sociocultural anthropology; in future editions, we hope to include alumni from all four subfields of anthropology. The contributors graduated from colleges in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts; in the future, we would like to expand this project to include students from other states and regions. We believe there is a strong need for a compilation of this kind. People with undergraduate degrees in anthropology are doing incredibly interesting and valuable work; their stories are both informative and inspiring. We are pleased to publish the first of what we hope will …
The Formation Of A Professional Organization For Writing Across The Curriculum, Christopher Basgier, Michelle Cox, Brian Hendrickson
The Formation Of A Professional Organization For Writing Across The Curriculum, Christopher Basgier, Michelle Cox, Brian Hendrickson
Arts & Sciences Faculty Publications
In this chapter, we describe the rationale for and development of the Association for Writing Across the Curriculum (AWAC), which held its first meeting for members at the 2018 International Writing Across the Curriculum Conference. We first provide a historiography of previous WAC/WID-related efforts, including the specific contributions of each one, leading up to the more formalized process of establishing this new organization. Finally, we explain our aspirations of AWAC’s role in supporting a sustainable and inclusive scholarly WAC/WID community.
