Cordel Corrido: What Are The Implications Of Creating A New Narrative Voice For Education?, Marco Ag Cerqueira
Northwest Journal of Teacher Education
In this article the author proposes queering the teaching of Brazilian and Mexican popular poetry, cordel and corrido, for students in high school or freshmen in college engaging with a curriculum of the brown bodies and aesthetic currere. The author criticizes the teaching of canonic literature in classrooms usually written by white, straight, and middle-class men, and proposes teaching popular poetry from Latin America as a project to interrupt that canon. Teaching and encouraging students to write poetry is a way to oppose the epistemicide in classrooms, and students of color (African descendants, Native peoples, and with roots in Latin …

Crafting Malfunction: Rhetoric And Circuit-Bending, Steven Hammer, Aimée Knight
Crafting Malfunction: Rhetoric And Circuit-Bending, Steven Hammer, Aimée Knight
Harlot: A Revealing Look at the Arts of Persuasion
Circuit-bending, an art practice developed in the 1960's, involves the creative short circuiting of battery-powered toys and instruments. Like many of its avant-garde precursors, circuit-bending is a composition practice that values access, chance, and indeterminacy. For this special issue of Harlot, we document our own circuit-bending process and make connections between the work of Qubais Reed Ghazala, the pioneer of circuit-bending, and rhetoric and writing. Specifically, we discuss the importance of access and creativity, invention and discovery, and the ways that composition is a collaborative performance between humans and nonhumans.

Dissertations and Theses
My work was presented in the form of an installation. Using three and two-dimensional objects, as well as sound and light, I created a site specific type of installation. Materials involved in this project were hydrostone, plaster, steel and copper. The sound I recorded on my steel sculptures in an acoustic space and then mixed to create sound compositions to amplify the feeling for the space. This installation reflects my pursuits in painting and sculpture, as well as my interest in music and light effects. Its philosophical and spiritual content were expressed through visual language, symbolic use of elements and …

Songs And Stories That Only You Know: Multiplicity, Meaning, & The Metaphorical Bridge, Matthew Haggett
Dissertations and Theses
The thesis report will serve as a companion for the body of work that is the bulk of the thesis project. The theme of the thesis project is "the bridge". "The bridge" is a metaphor for meaning occurring through context. It is present on many levels. It will implicit in much of the discussion. I will include themes such as the play of differing scales, the ambiguous line between part and whole, and the reasons for the book format . Specific imagery that occurs repeatedly in the work, like architecture and knots, will be explained in terms of its sources, …
