A Construct Validity Study For The Women Workers Scale Questionnaire, Gwen Simpson
A Construct Validity Study For The Women Workers Scale Questionnaire, Gwen Simpson
Dissertations and Theses
This study attempted to obtain evidence on the construct validity of the Women Workers Scale (WWS), an attitude scale developed to measure male supervisors' attitudes toward women workers. As women enter the work world in increasing numbers, they are usually supervised by men. However, few studies have examined the attitudes of male supervisors toward women workers. At least one author (Bass, 1972) reported that there were significant differences among male managers in their attitudes toward women. Specifically, those male managers who had not worked with women held more favorable attitudes than male managers who had worked with women.

Historical Consideration Of F. C. Baur: His Life, Works, And Theological Thought, Especially In Regard To His Church History And Historical Theology, Steven N. Goetz
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis examines and evaluates F.C. Baur's philosophical and theological ideas as they relate to the writing of Church history and historical theology. The study is undertaken within the context of the problem of the relation between faith and history, which can be stated in more relevant categories for Church historiography as the problem of the relation between subject (faith) and object (history), and proposes that Baur's thought on this problem can be useful for the modern faith/history debate, and especially for the consideration of writing Church history.

Sixteen women over the age of 35 were taught jazz dance over a 10 week period. A pre and post test of the Tennessee Self Concept Scale was used on both a dance group and a no dance group. It was hypothesized there would be positive changes in three of the 10 scores in the TSCS for the dance group, but not for the no dance group. The scores predicted to …

The Nearly Forgotten Blacks On Last Chance Gulch, 1900-1912, William L. Lang
History Faculty Publications and Presentations
Contemporary residents of the state capital of Montana are usually surprised to learn that at one time over 400 Afro-Americans made their homes in the city. A boomer mining camp in the 1860s, a financial and transportation center by the 1870s, the seat of territorial and state government. and reputedly the richest city per capita in the nation in 1911, Helena has a colorful past that is familiar to many; but few people know about the blacks on Last Chance Gulch. This essay examines the development of Helena's Afro-American community during the prosperous years after the turn of the century.

The Federal Writers' Project In Oregon, 1935-1942: A Case Study, Thomas James Ptacek
Dissertations and Theses
The Federal Writers’ Project was created in 1935 as part of the Works Progress Administration. This project represented an example of the highest evolution of work relief philosophy of the New Deal during the depression of the 1930's. Unlike previous work relief programs, the Federal Writers' Project sought to employ people in their chosen profession. This task was accomplished with the establishment of writers' projects in each state under the guidance of a national office. The major goal of these individual projects was to research, write and edit a state guidebook. This current study surveys previous research on this program …

Introducing The Secondary Student To Sculptural Design And Form In Metal : Welding Sheet Steel Using The Oxyacetylene Torch, Philip John Smith
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis deals with the application of simple oxyacetylene welding techniques to the secondary art curriculum. Welded sculptural forms in sheet steel have been the focus of my own work during the past three years and these experiences formed the basis or background of the presentation of these skills to secondary students. An instructional unit was designed to fulfill three primary objectives. First, to familiarize the student with the basic tools and materials used in the construction of welded steel sculpture; second, to introduce the student to the creative concepts involved in the creation of sculptural form; third, to give …
The Isolation Of An Individual : Thomas Mann's Tonio KröGer, Thomas Richard Survilla
The Isolation Of An Individual : Thomas Mann's Tonio KröGer, Thomas Richard Survilla
Dissertations and Theses
Thomas Mann, early in life, felt himself to be "different" from others around him and "isolated" from the normal life that others enjoyed. He attributed these feelings to what he felt was his descent from a sound Bürger life to unsound Künstlertum.
These feelings of guilt and suffering prodded Mann into applying his introspective-artistic techniques to his own condition. He examined his own life, considered his own world and his relationship to it, and came to certain conclusions. Many of Mann's works are therefore not "fiction" at all'; he himself once stated that all of his works were autobiographical.
The Political And Constitutional Origins Of The Grand Remonstrance, James S. Hart Jr.
The Political And Constitutional Origins Of The Grand Remonstrance, James S. Hart Jr.
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis on the Grand Remonstrance represents an attempt to deal with the central question of Stuart Historiography, the question which asks "What were the causes of the English Civil War, and why did it occur when it did?" The question of causation is fundamental to an understanding of the early 17th century, and it has created considerable controversy among successive generations of historians. The central issue in question is whether the English Civil War was caused by a long term revolution in English society, generated by substantial changes in socio-economic conditions, or whether, in fact, it was caused by …

The Non-Career Ambassador In America's Diplomacy : Case Study, Frederic Mosley Sackett, Ambassador To Germany, January, 1930-March, 1933, Stephen A. Nicholls
The Non-Career Ambassador In America's Diplomacy : Case Study, Frederic Mosley Sackett, Ambassador To Germany, January, 1930-March, 1933, Stephen A. Nicholls
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis explores a continuous problem facing those who conduct American diplomatic affairs: the appointment of amateurs, with no previous experience in diplomacy, as ambassadors representing the United States abroad. This study contends that the noncareer, nonprofessional appointment is neither necessarily a bad thing nor should it be considered undesirable, given the American system of conducting its foreign affairs. On the contrary this thesis argues that the amateur ambassador can effectively serve to enhance the needs of American foreign policy without having the same professional training.accorded to the career foreign service officer.
The Political Evolution Of Cameroon, 1884-1961, Victor Julius Ngoh
The Political Evolution Of Cameroon, 1884-1961, Victor Julius Ngoh
Dissertations and Theses
The research problem is an analysis of the political evolution of Cameroon from a colony in 1884 to an independent state in 1961. It involves not only the transition of the country from a colony to an independent state per se, but also the various factors which kindled the rise of nationalism in the country. The problem is rendered more interesting and complex by the fact that the country had, at different times in its colonial history, been a German colony, as well as British and French colonies – although technically Britain and France administered their respective portions of the …

Thought, Word And Deed In The Mid-Tudor Commonwealth : Sir Thomas Smith And Sir William Cecil In The Reign Of Edward Vi, Ann B. Clark
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis examines the general economic and intellectual climate of the mid-Tudor Commonwealth as a background for a specific study of the financial reforms instituted by Edward VI's government while the Duke of Northumberland controlled the Privy Council. The philosophy behind these measures parallels the principles expressed in A Discourse of the Commonweal of this Realm of England, a treatise written in 1549 by Sir Thomas Smith, Secretary to King Edward. In 1551-1552 the implementation of financial reform fell to Sir William Cecil, also King's Secretary and Northumberland's key administrator on the Council. In establishing the link between Smith's ideas …
