Three Men And A Store, S. Ray Granade
Three Men And A Store, S. Ray Granade
Creative Works
Most accurately, we should probably call this “two men, a boy, and a store.” It features three generations of males from the same family—the father, his only son, and his first-born grandson. The store, Arkadelphia’s first “big box” discount store, Howard Brothers (colloquially known as Howard’s), sat atop the last northward hil l on Tenth Street (aka US Highway 67/AR Highway 7) and looked eastward and northeastward across its parking lot over the Caddo River and Ouachita River floodplains. The occasion arose when the father and his wife drove from Montgomery, Alabama over the course of about a dozen hours …
Putting The Fun In Foreign Language: Defining And Justifying Leisure Language Learning And The Implications For Foreign Language Educators And Students, Graca Webster
Honors Theses
In a world where learning a foreign language has never been more accessible than it is right now, many people believe that the endeavor is beyond their capabilities and an unworthy use of their time. In Western civilizations, there has been a serious decrease in true hobby/leisure activities over the last 15 years. With technological innovations like social media that provide endless hours of scrolling, media streaming services such as Netflix, and even regular cable TV, we have access to endless entertainment that decreases the desire to have a hobby. In March 2020, worldwide lockdowns due to Covid-19 kept most …
Deranda And The Pediatrician, S. Ray Granade
Deranda And The Pediatrician, S. Ray Granade
Creative Works
The winter after her tenth birthday brought the crisis with it. That crisis compounded a wretched combination of willfulness and unrecognized reality with timing. The compound meant that she might not live to be eleven— however impossible that seemed at the time.
She was a child who loved the outdoors and its beauty, but also loved order, neatness, and cleanliness. Those two loves warred within her, with the best manifestation being a penchant for interrupting her early preoccupation with making mud-pies for frequent trips indoors to wash up before returning to “cooking.” The long walkway from her first childhood home …
"Si Me Tocaras El Corazon" Y La Violencia Contra La Mujer, Breanna Watson
"Si Me Tocaras El Corazon" Y La Violencia Contra La Mujer, Breanna Watson

Putting The Fun In Foreign Language: Defining Leisure Language Learning And The Implications For Foreign Language Educators, Graca Webster
Putting The Fun In Foreign Language: Defining Leisure Language Learning And The Implications For Foreign Language Educators, Graca Webster
Scholars Day Conference
Leisure language learning is the pursuit of learning a foreign language out of one's own volition, rather than out of necessity, to fulfill an educational requirement, or for a job requirement, and for the primary purpose of pleasure and self-fulfillment. Leisure language learning can inform the way that foreign language educators prepare students for individual and personal success in a foreign language beyond the classroom. This work seeks to provide a complete definition of leisure language learning, discuss applications of this concept in the university level foreign language classroom, and present a layperson’s guide to becoming a leisure language learner.

Alif: Building A Bridge, Sabaoot Esho
Scholars Day Conference
The project is centered around the exploration of Arabic typography and its multi-faceted uses. Arabic calligraphy is an old practice and tradition that has been studied and refined since it was founded. Comparatively, Arabic typography is a much more recent creative study that is still developing, thus there has not been much literature that covers it. Therefore, the main goal of the project is to highlight and integrate Arabic typography with Arabic calligraphy. By doing so, the project builds a bridge within Arabic graphic design, connecting the rich Arabic calligraphy to its newer counterpart, Arabic typography.
