Ya Think Ya Know A Guy, Glenn Spencer

Spring Presentation of Undergraduate Research

Through looking at the graphic novel Y the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn this research project will be exploring ideas of male and female gender performance. ...With Liberty And Equality For All?, Sydney Hughes

Spring Presentation of Undergraduate Research

The United States has prided itself on being a "melting pot" for different races, cultures, and ethnicities. However, Congress passed immigration policies that refute this statement. During times of war, the United States has opened its doors to immigrants to help with labor and population shortages yet passed legislation that made it harder for immigrants and refugees to survive in the United States, as shown in legislation passed during World War II and the Vietnam War.

The Misunderstood Origins Of The Cold War, Jennifer Melton

Spring Presentation of Undergraduate Research

The origins of the Cold War stemmed from the position of competition the United States and the Soviet Union were forced into after World War II ended which created the void of communication between the two superpowers. Without the excuse of alliance that World War II provided the two countries moved into a period of a more pronounced ideological conflict. The reason for this was because ideologically they were at direct odds with one another. The difference in ideology and politics of both countries forced further separation and unwillingness to work together to resolve any issues. This difference in ideology …

The Shaping Of Islamic Culture, Briella Hargrove

Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

the discussion of the Ridda Wars is one which needs more light shined upon it. These wars are not often mentioned, however, they are a series of wars that most historians know occurred. Those who focus on Islamic studies often debate about whether these series of wars was a religious or political movement, I say they are both. Abu Bakr gained several enemies which lead to the series of wars that make up the Ridda Wars or Wars of Apostacy. How did these wars shape Islamic culture? The Wars of Apostacy began the line of the Caliphs and people being …

Monsters, Marines, And Feminism In The 1980s: A Look At Ellen Ripley From Aliens, Summer Reardon

Spring Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry

The battle between Ripley and the alien mother symbolizes how women of the 1980s were grappling with their changing roles of motherhood brought about in part by their increased power over their own reproductive health, as well as broadening career options for women. During this time, more women began to take on non-traditional gender roles in the workplace, the family, and in society.
