Serbian Orthodoxy Between Two Worlds, Marko P. Djurić Apr 2018

Serbian Orthodoxy Between Two Worlds, Marko P. Djurić

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Orthodoxy has, by the Providence of God, been placed between Western Christianity, and Sunni Islam. Church nationalism (phyletism) has always been present in political and linguistic nationalism in the former Yugoslavia. The relationship between Serbian Orthodoxy, with Islam and Western Christianity is not satisfactory. In order to become satisfactory, it would be important for the Orthodox Church to create a new theology which would, primarily, be a theological (Orthodox) response to the signs of the times. However, this has not become the reality as of yet.

Islam As A Way Of Defining The National Identity Of Bosnian Muslims, Athanasios G. Athanasiadis Nov 2014

Islam As A Way Of Defining The National Identity Of Bosnian Muslims, Athanasios G. Athanasiadis

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Political changes in Yugoslavia in the 1990s triggered a series of changes in the ethno-religious field. The ethnological problems faced by the residents of Bosnia formed part of more general ethnological reshuffling in former Yugoslavia, promoting idealized nations, non-existent ethnic ideologies and fabricated state designs. However, these nations already constitute part of the reshuffling of the reform of New Europe. A major part was played in the formulation of the ethnic identity of Bosnian Muslims by the Islamic Community, under unique conditions and in cooperation with the Communist Yugoslavia of Josip Broz Tito from 1945 to 1990. The description and …

Christian And Muslim Mutual Relatedness And Directedness As Our Common Destiny In The Balkans, Marko Djurić

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

The author gives his own religious perspective about mutual relatedness and directedness between Christians and Muslims in the Balkans. The contemporary historical moment it is important to improve contacts not only between Christians and Muslims, but also between their religious institutions. Contextualizing The Gospel To Muslims, Maya J. Morgan Jan 2011

Contextualizing The Gospel To Muslims, Maya J. Morgan

Seminary Masters Theses

Muslims are considered some of the least reached peoples in the world. As "Christianity" is often associated with Colonialism, the Crusades, and Western culture, traditional models of “casting the seed” have proven ineffective. Those seeking to share the goodness with Muslims must explore new contextual ways to communicate the message of Christ to the Islamic community. This thesis begins by defining and giving a brief history of contextualization. Basic methods of contextualization are explained, and issued of syncretism are addressed in chapter one.

Contextualization must be practiced when communicating the good news. Chapter two focuses on the aspects of cross-‐cultural …

Being A Christian Or A Muslim -How?- The Question Is Now, Marko P. Djuric

Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

Christianity and Islam can do a great deal for the cause of human justice and interethnic peace. The most important task today is to work on reconciliation and on creating an atmosphere of mutual t1ust. This is the only way in which we can avoid the Balkans being once again, in the future, a region with an "excess of history." But as regards the Church and Islam, they must work on a theology that will ensure mutual respect and eliminate mutual prejudices. However, a theology of this kind has yet to feature in our Eastern Orthodoxy.
