A Reintroduction Of Sabbath As A Biblical Practice For The Spiritual Formation Of Inman First Baptist Church Inman, South Carolina, Jeremiah Vance Childers

Inman First Baptist Church received Sabbath as a biblical practice through a three-stage project. The project is adapted from James Brian Smith’s components for spiritual transformation. A control group received the first stage through narrative teaching in a Sabbath Study. An experimental group received the first stage, along with second (Sabbath practices) and third stages (Sabbath discussion). The thesis stated, “Members who received all three stages of the experiment would have a higher appreciation of Sabbath for Spiritual Formation.” The study measured appreciation of Sabbath through a Sabbath Survey. The Sabbath is the zenith of God’s creation and the climax of living. The key to reducing stress among ministers is the Sabbath lifestyle which includes practicing the disciplines of prayer, silence, feasting and fellowshipping in addition to identifying the signs and symptoms of stress. The Sabbath lifestyle empowers ministers with coping skills that can be personalized and implemented consistently as they progress and deal with the daunting demands and responsibilities of ministry. The 1931 meeting of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association took place at Zion Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. The introductory sermon was delivered by L. L. Jessup. G.G. Page announced that he will no longer serve as Superintendent of the Kings Mountain Baptist Sunday School Association. The Report on Temperance and Public Morals resolved to oppose gambling and games of chance in the county. The Boiling Springs Junior College Annual Report indicated that the school's football program has been cut due to economy and expense. The Annual Report also asks that the Association's churches put the College in their budget.
