Holistic Community: The Key To Real-Life Discipleship, Petr Činčala Dec 2022

Holistic Community: The Key To Real-Life Discipleship, Petr Činčala

Faculty Publications

The word “discipleship” carries different meanings depending on the context in which it is used. Holistic community provides a natural environment in which people can learn cognitively, emotionally, and behaviorally. In this way, discipling in the context of community (small groups) enhances and strengthens behaving and believing, as well as belonging. Additionally, a deeper understanding of the three-fold revelation of God (i.e., the Triune God, who is by nature a communal, relational God) helps us better understand how holistic small groups foster the growth and support of believers, encouraging them to bring others into God’s family. The way the members …

P-23 2 Peter, Information Literacy, And Theological Discourse, Terry Dwain Robertson

Celebration of Research and Creative Scholarship

The pedagogical mission of academic librarianship embraces information literacy. “Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning.” (https://www.ala.org/acrl/standards/ilframework) The Association of College and Research Libraries proposes a Framework for teaching information literacy, including knowledge, practices, and dispositions--addressing both the consumption and production of information.

In 2 Peter, the knowledge, practices, and dispositions of the faith community (2 Pet 1), contrasted with those of the false teachers (2 …

The corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic brought both negative and positive impacts on all sectors of world economies since its inception in the early 2020s. Profit and not-for-profit institutions have had their levels of effects as a result of the world-wide crises. Lockdown measures imposed by governments around the world to curb the spread of the virus had various repercussions on various activities, including churches. Effects of the pandemic on businesses, education, agriculture and tourism, among others, have received massive highlights in literature. A Biblical Foundation For Visions And Dreams, Wilfred T. Adderley Sr. Oct 2022

A Biblical Foundation For Visions And Dreams, Wilfred T. Adderley Sr.

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

This article looks at the biblical foundation that supports the idea that God is still speaking to human beings today through visions and dreams. God has not left communication of his will for humans today totally in the hands of Scripture since he continues to communicate with religious leaders, pastors, the church, unbelievers, and those who hate him through visions and dreams. This article illustrates that God continued to communicate his will through vision and dream experiences from the time of creation until today. Despite widespread skepticism among many toward visions and dreams, God continues to speak by these supernatural …

A Life-Changing Dream With Missiological Lessons, Michée Badé

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

In 2012 Touara, a young Dendi woman in her early twenties had a dream that led her to Christ (see December 2012 Adventist Frontiers). The article described how God answered our team’s six years of prayer for dreams and visions among our Dendi Muslim friends in the Northeastern part of Benin in West Africa. This article describes how dreams and visions are important for Muslims, summarizes Touara’s dream, and then, draws some missiological implications from such life-changing dreams.

Historical Examples And Evaluations Of Visions And Dreams, Wilfred T. Adderley Sr. Oct 2022

Historical Examples And Evaluations Of Visions And Dreams, Wilfred T. Adderley Sr.

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

This article asks whether there has been an ecclesiastical shift away from spiritual gifts—especially believing and accepting that God still sends visions and dreams during this present period in history? Is the Holy Spirit continuing to speak to humans through visions and dreams? These questions will be answered, and the seven-element biblical model will be used to evaluate visions and dreams. I will review documents from the Ante Nicene Fathers, will look at the works of Martin Luther and John Wesley, and Adventist pioneers William Miller and Ellen White concerning dreams and visions. Documented dream experiences from Muslim cultures and …

Integrating Medical Pluralism In Southern Africa: The Case Of The Zion Christian Church’S Healing Motif, Olaotse Obed Gabasiane

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

The challenges that Western-trained medical missionaries and Christian doctors face is that their African patients, some of whom may be Christians, do consult all the healers in the parallel medical systems freely and almost simultaneously, the result of which may be complications, and possibly mental confusion, due to medications from different sources being taken at the same time without any liaison between doctors and healers.

For centuries, Christians have cultivated faith in themselves and others by engaging in prayer, evangelism, discipleship, and education, with Christian tertiary institutions playing a vital role in this nurturing of faith. However, previous studies have shown that Christian educators have also been complicit in depleting faith in others. This erosion of faith has been well documented in American "Christian" universities like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, primarily due to modernity and secularization. For faith to thrive, it has to be backed with intention, and this is especially of paramount importance in American higher education today. As the oldest Seventh-day Adventist University, …
