Tracing The Routes Of Floating Exhibitions: A Fluid Cartography Of Post-War Modernism Around 1956, Laura Bohnenblust
Tracing The Routes Of Floating Exhibitions: A Fluid Cartography Of Post-War Modernism Around 1956, Laura Bohnenblust
Artl@s Bulletin
This article discusses the phenomenon of floating art exhibitions based on the examples of the Argentinian exposición flotante and the Australian Pacific Loan Exhibition (both 1956). They manifested themselves at the same time as the “second wave of biennials” and can be interpreted as floating national pavilions. Through a spatial analysis of the routes taken across the open ocean, it is shown how the ships’ movements form what can be understood as a ‘negative map’ of canonical art history, oriented around the North Atlantic. This cartographic approach reveals blind spots in art historical research and contributes to the creation of …

La Circulación Y Resignificación Del “Feminismo” En La Argentina De Fin-De-Siglo A Través De Su Proceso De Integración Al International Council Of Women (1899-1910), Marcela Vignoli
Journal of International Women's Studies
The formation of the National Council of Women of the Argentine Republic in 1900 (CNMA), was an important step to integrate women into an international network that had formed similar entities in other parts of the world and came together in the International Council of Women (ICW), which had been founded in 1888 in Washington. The International Council saw with great expectation that other countries of the region imitated this first experience of Latin America. For their part, some of the local members looked forward to the possibility of coming into contact with feminist and women’s issues in other parts …
El Último Acuerdo Con El Fmi Durante El Gobierno De Mauricio Macri: El Impacto De La Deuda Externa En La Soberanía Según Los Actores Políticos Y Sociales De La Argentina / The Latest Agreement With The Imf Under The Government Of Mauricio Macri: The Impact Of Foreign Debt On The Sovereignty Of Argentina According To Social And Political Actors, Sarah Schubert
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
Nobel laureate in economics, Simon Kuznets, allegedly commented “There are four kinds of countries in the world: developed countries, underdeveloped countries, Japan, and Argentina” (Reyes & Sawyer, 2019). Since the mid twentieth century, Argentina has stood out due to the complexity of its ever changing economic and political orientations. Initially recognized as a growing nation with a booming economy, Argentina soon fell victim to macroeconomic instability. Inflation, growing deficits and most notably the assumption of foreign debt have plagued the country’s economy. Known for their tumultuous relationship with the International Monetary Fund, Argentina came to declare the largest sovereign default …

La Lengua Gallega En La Diáspora Latinoamericana: La Tensión Entre Nacionalismo Y Sentimentalismo Y Sus Efectos En El Habla, Luke A. Bishop
Posthumanism And The Representation Of Power Dynamics In Hispanic Graphic Novels, Savannah Campbell
Posthumanism And The Representation Of Power Dynamics In Hispanic Graphic Novels, Savannah Campbell
Honors Projects
My focus in this research has been to use graphic novels, a literary medium that is often marginalized in both academic and cultural circles, to examine how posthumanism, specifically from the viewpoint of Spanish and Argentinian creators, allows readers to explore and critique various power dynamics.

Crossing The Atlantic: Italians In Argentina And The Making Of A National Culture, 1880–1930, Lauren A. Kaplan
Crossing The Atlantic: Italians In Argentina And The Making Of A National Culture, 1880–1930, Lauren A. Kaplan
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Between 1880-1930, Argentina took in millions of Italian immigrants, contributing to the largest voluntary diaspora in modern history. This dissertation examines how Argentina’s open immigration policy dovetailed with the formation of a national artistic style, generating new perspectives on how immigrants, particularly Italians, proactively shaped Argentine culture while also becoming enmeshed in an intricate geo-political relationship that spanned generations and regimes. This project takes an interdisciplinary approach, drawing upon research from anthropology, social history, political science, and nationalism studies in order to produce new insights about art and national identity in Argentina around the turn of the twentieth century.

Charisma's Triumph Over Organization: Peronism Throughout The Decades, Alyssa Dipadova
Charisma's Triumph Over Organization: Peronism Throughout The Decades, Alyssa Dipadova
Student Symposium
“A party’s organization characteristics depend more upon its history, i.e. on how the organization orientated and how it consolidated…[e]very organization bears the mark of its formation, of the crucial political-administrative decision made by its founders, the decision which ‘molded’ the organization." The validity (or maybe the potency/breadth) of this idea when applied to Peronism is the main topic for this paper. The importance of this topic cannot be understated as the Partido Justicialista (PJ), the largest component of the Peronist movement, continues to be one of the most prevalent parties in Argentina’s two-party system--the other being the UCR. How did …
Evaluación De La Presencia De Mujeres En Gabinetes Subnacionales De Argentina (1992-2016), Tiffany D. Barnes, Tomás Ciocci, Débora Lopreite
Evaluación De La Presencia De Mujeres En Gabinetes Subnacionales De Argentina (1992-2016), Tiffany D. Barnes, Tomás Ciocci, Débora Lopreite
Political Science Faculty Publications
Racial Hierarchies In Latin America That Affected My Black Experience, Tiye Gardner
Racial Hierarchies In Latin America That Affected My Black Experience, Tiye Gardner
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
I was able to study abroad three times, as well as study away. I went abroad to Buenos Aires, Argentina (fall 2016 for three months); Oaxaca, Mexico (fall 2017 for three months); New York City, New York (spring 2018 for four months); and Heredia, Costa Rica (winter 2019 for three weeks). These opportunities have changed my life tremendously. But no one told me what all going abroad entailed. When a person goes abroad, they do not have a bubble around them that shields them from the way that country operates. Students all over the world learn about Christopher Columbus but …
La Vulneración De Los Derechos E Invisibilización Sobre Lxs Migrantes Senegaleses En Caba / The Violation Of Human Rights And The Invisibilization Of Senegalese Immigrants In The Autonomous City Of Buenos Aires, Madeline Doane
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Acquiring Native-Like Norms Of Making A Request In Spanish During Short-Term Study Abroad In Argentina And Spain, Christine H. Song
LSU Master's Theses
The current study examines if L2 learners of Spanish acquire native-like norms of making a request during short-term study abroad in Argentina and Spain via Discourse Completion Tasks (DCT). The investigation included 3 groups of the participants: an experimental group of 15 U.S. students who studied in Argentina or Spain; a control group of 12 U.S. students who had not studied abroad; and a control group of 7 native speakers of Spanish. The results show that students in the study abroad group became more native-like in making a request to a certain extent. Firstly, the students in the experimental group …

A Compendium Of Opera In Spain And Latin America, Michelle S. Smith
A Compendium Of Opera In Spain And Latin America, Michelle S. Smith
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
Spain and Latin America have a rich operatic tradition, however this opulent body of operatic work is mostly overlooked or ignored in mainstream histories of opera. This document focuses on opera in Spain and the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. Opera was both composed and performed in Spain and Latin America, and both regions demonstrate the development of national opera traditions. Spanish drama was closely linked to the beginnings of national opera, and Italian influence is evident in opera compositions from both regions. The output of national operas varies by country, with Spain, Mexico, and Argentina claiming the majority of …
