Searching For Their Real Home: Dependent Black Children In Indianapolis, 1910-1940, John D. Ramsbottom

Concerns about the future for young people, reflected in contemporary headlines, were equally prominent in Indianapolis a hundred years ago. Then, as now, children whose parents neglected or abandoned them posed a special problem. In the midst of rapid social change that seemed to threaten traditional family stability, a small corps of professionals and volunteers worked to provide a nurturing environment.

This paper discusses several aspects of the “art des masses” concept that flourished in Paris during the Popular Front years (1936–1938) and the contribution of three of the most important Parisian art magazines to the establishment of a visual imagery: Cahiers d'art, Minotaure, and Verve. These magazines addressed in each case the ideological and formalist concerns of their editors in respect to the contemporary discussions on the place of the artist in society, the leftist anti-capitalist discourse against social inequality, and the Popular Front cultural policy as reflected in the 1937 Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie …

Louis Achille Delaquerrière Album – INDEX (names, titles: musical scores & poetry) Dr. Liliane Delaquerrière Richardson has donated an album containing the career memorabilia of her grandfather, Louis Achille Delaquerrière, to the Music Library. Louis was a singer at the Opéra-Comique, Paris, a vocal arts teacher and a composer. As a sought-after singer and voice teacher, he was part of the cultural elite of his time (1870s to 1930s). Throughout his career he collected mementos and documents and included them in his album.
