La Libertad De Conciencia En Miguel De Unamuno, Kevin Fagan
La Libertad De Conciencia En Miguel De Unamuno, Kevin Fagan
Kevin T. Fagan
“Winning is not convincing” was the response of the Rector of the University of Salamanca, Miguel de Unamuno, when faced with the military arrogance of General Millán-Astray during the Spanish Civil War. Speaking truth to power, these last public words uttered by Unamuno rise up as the capstone of the courageous defense of freedom of conscience by an academic against despotism. Here we analyze his literary and philosophical thought throughout a life of writings consistent with his personal sufferings on behalf of conscience. His multiple witnesses in defense of freedom of thought, expression and action are based on deep meditation …

A Phenomenology Of The Integration Of Faith And Learning, Elizabeth C. Sites, Fernando L. Garzon, Frederick Milacci, Barbara Boothe
Fred Milacci
This phenomenological investigation examined how eight student-nominated faculty who teach at an evangelical Christian liberal arts university describe their understanding and practice of the Integration of Faith and Learning (IFL). Collected data via informal, conversational, taped interviews led to the emergence of two primary themes: the Inseparability of Faith from Practice and the Outworking of Faith in Practice. The findings of the study highlight the need to create a more conducive context in which students can learn IFL and call for a re-examination of the already murky discourse surrounding definitional aspects of IFL. The study proposes to move the discourse …

The Religious Other As Neighbor, Lawrence E. Frizzell D.Phil.
Reverend Lawrence E. Frizzell, S.T.L., S.S.L., D.Phil.
Many stories are told about antagonism between Christians and Jews, especially in countries with a large Jewish minority. The history of persecution should be told along with the lessons learned for our time. A brief review of examples whose participants were neighbors, either in reality or in principle, may be instructive. This paper will move through the centuries in a rapid survey, recalling friendly contacts or benign exchanges between Christians and Jews.

Scripture As Word Of God: Evangelical Assumption Or Evangelical Question?, John D. Morrison
Scripture As Word Of God: Evangelical Assumption Or Evangelical Question?, John D. Morrison
John D. Morrison
Examines the views of D. Bloesch, G. Fackre, and C. Pinnock. Indicates their disjunctive positions introduce ontological and epistemological dualism into the doctrine of revelation. Takes Packer's view of the Bible as the Word of God written, affirming that the human languages used to reflect God's person and work are competent to do so. Finds Wolterstorff's answer to Barth and John Baillie insightful, but we must move past his views to the full-orbed acceptance of the Word of God as written to avoid negating propositional revelation.

Mary And The Jews: The Gospels And The Early Church, Lawrence E. Frizzell D.Phil.
Reverend Lawrence E. Frizzell, S.T.L., S.S.L., D.Phil.
The intention of this essay is twofold; to extend the time period of my earlier essays on Mary and the biblical heritage and to sketch the developments in the early Church, in spite of their burdens of motifs relating to the Jewish people, so that we can understand our history with an insight into the Church's roots and prepare for a better future in Christian- Jewish relations.

Twisty Little Passages: The Several Editions Of Lady Caroline Lamb's Glenarvon, Paul Douglass
Paul Douglass
A literary criticism of the book "Glenarvon," by Lady Caroline Lamb is presented. It presents the symbolic significance of the characters. It outlines the consequences of denying true love and the importance of aristocratic leadership and self-control. It examines the preface of the book in which the author states that the novel is not immoral even with the inclusion of crimes and she asks readers to recognize that her intention of writing the book is to describe human nature.
A Guide Du Routard Simulation: Increasing Self-Efficacy In The Standards Through Project-Based Learning, Nicole A. Mills
A Guide Du Routard Simulation: Increasing Self-Efficacy In The Standards Through Project-Based Learning, Nicole A. Mills
Nicole A Mills
Project-based learning (PBL) is described as a student-centered approach to learning in which students’ engage in and collaborate on sequential authentic tasks and develop a final project. Through opportunities to integrate both language and content learning, PBL practitioners suggest that meaningful language use and purposeful communication are fostered (Sheppard & Stoller, 1995; Stoller, 2006). Despite its numerous cited advantages, there are no known empirical studies evaluating the influence of PBL on the self-efficacy of FL learners. This study evaluated how project-based learning influenced the development of false beginner French students’ self-efficacy, or perceived competence, in the five goal areas of …
