Statement By New Afrikan Prisoner Of War Kuwasi Balagoon, Amilcar Shabazz

Amilcar Shabazz

As a member of Kuwasi Balagoon's political defense collective, called the National Committee to Defend New Afrikan Freedom Fighters, I transcribed this statement that he attempted to present in court at his trial in Goshen, NY, that opened July 11, 1983. Orange County Judge David Ritter denied him from giving the full statement that is presented here from the pamphlet that was published for Black August 1983, with the brief introduction that I wrote.

Consonantal Morphology In The Chaha Verb, John J. Mccarthy Jan 1983

Consonantal Morphology In The Chaha Verb, John J. Mccarthy

John J. McCarthy

In the Gurage (Ethiopian Semitic) language Chaha, erstwhile phonological processes of palatalization and labialization have been morphologized as part of the inflectional system. Specifically, under certain morphological conditions we find palatalization of a root-final velar or coronal obstruent, labialization of the rightmost labial or velar consonant in the root, or a conjunction of these two processes. The most striking aspect of this morphological system is that the labialization and palatalization apply across the board to all copies of a reduplicated root consonant.

Just as neighbourhoods provided a setting for the interaction of different religious and ethnic groups, so too did the place of employment. Successful neighborhodds have had a sense of community of shared spirit, about them. The same was true for successful industrial enterprises.

The Baker Family Of Aberdeen, Maryland, John H. Livezey Dec 1982

The Baker Family Of Aberdeen, Maryland, John H. Livezey

George H Baker

The Bakers of Aberdeen, descendants of a colonial era Nicholas Baker, were perhaps the most prominent family in that community in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They were leaders in the canning industry, in government, the Methodist Episcopal Church, farming, banking, publishing, academia, and real estate. They built imposing Victorian residences in Aberdeen and established the local cemetery which bears the family name and contains a number of large monuments to mark their final resting places. The purposes of this article, a summary of more extensive genealogical data collected by the compiler, is to provide a sketch identifying …
