Wilson(?) discussing his forwarding of recommendations in connection with a job search. Anxious to relocate, Wilson states that he would make a prospective employer “a good man” and that “Kentuck[y] [isn’t] any good now for a young man.” The letter is on letterhead of the Cave City, Kentucky agents of the American Electric Telephone Company of Chicago, Illinois. The reverse bears advertising copy and images of telephones and switchboard equipment.

Cherry, Indianapolis, Indiana, to John Marion Stahl, Jr., Bowling Green, Kentucky, in which she states her desire “to make your life happy and sweet.” It includes a facsimile of a $7 postal money order from Cherry to Stahl. In April 1915, Cherry sent a promissory note for thirty dollars to be drawn on Bowling Green’s American National Bank. She did not sign the note, so also included is a short letter to Stahl from J. Business and personal correspondence, as well as business records (chiefly invoices and statements from Louisville suppliers) for the Green family at Falls of Rough, Grayson County, Kentucky. Green operated a number of businesses, including saw mills, a grist mill, woolen mill, and a general store. He also operated a large farm raising tobacco and livestock, as well as a herd of Shetland ponies. Although his businesses are covered extensively in the correspondence and records, politics and local economic development is also discussed.

He then hopes to “sell an interest . . . so that we can live together.”

The letter discusses substituting parts to remedy errors in two orders, and the catalog pricing for an earlier delivery of parts. The company letterhead includes an image of its factory and the motto, “Buggies Bred in Old Kentucky.”

This collection includes a good deal of information about Farley’s teaching career prior to his work as a professor at WKU, his involvement in organizations that fought alcoholism and gambling (particularly the lottery in Kentucky), his church work, and his service on a committee to choose a federal magistrate for the western district of Kentucky. The collection includes an entire box of assessment related material related to Fort Knox Dependent Schools in the mid-1960s.

Of particular interest are Civil War letters written to Mary E. “Mollie” Liddell, items related to Howard College and Judson Institute in Marion, Alabama, letters to Lorena Parker from a missionary in Ethiopia, and a letter mentioning Texas politics in 1860.
