Mentoring As A Catalyst For Change: Creating A Mentor Training Curriculum Using The Servant Leadership Model, Alana S. Freeman
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This dissertation-in-praxis was a response to the problem of a lack of youth involvement at Warren Chapel United American Free Will Baptist (UAFWB) church in Winterville, NC. The Collaborating Coach, Pastor Betty Haddock, and the Collaborating Team were concerned about the church's future amid its aging congregation. The importance of investing in the spiritual formation of the younger generation in preparation for them being mature successors of current leaders is a principle reflected throughout Scripture. The Bible encourages the older generation to teach the younger generation about Godly principles so they will retain what they have learned when they are …

While African American female officers of faith continue to hold leadership positions, it is unclear whether mentorship serves as a factor of success. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore and understand the lived experience of African American female officers in the USAF …

Evangelistic Mentorship To Address Youth Decline At Dawn Baptist Church, Rickey Wesley Dover
Evangelistic Mentorship To Address Youth Decline At Dawn Baptist Church, Rickey Wesley Dover
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This paper presents an intervention addressing young adults’ tendency to leave the church after adolescence. This thesis project proposes that false conversion in a person’s formative years drives young adult church departure. For those who have a relationship with Christ, the most probable cause for departure is the lack of sanctification and growth due to an absence of biblical training. Therefore, this project designed and implemented an evangelical mentorship program specifically designed for youth in the church. While the research approach focuses more on quantitative methods, it also has qualitative elements. This research is qualitative in many of the self-reflections …

The Role Of The Clinical Educator In Mentoring Of Preservice Band Directors' Conducting Technique, Brian Patrick Timmons
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Despite the inclusion of undergraduate conducting coursework in music teacher preparation programs in the United States, the performance of novice conductors may require further development during their field experiences. The clinical music educator fills a critical role in facilitating conductor skill development, yet no comprehensive framework supports this coaching. This explanatory sequential mixed methods design study identifies effective strategies in the mentoring of preservice music educators toward refining their instrumental conducting skills by classifying perspectives of clinical and preservice educators and their perceived roles in developing preservice music educators' conducting skills. A broad base of participants (N = 73) was …

Across America, the need exists to identify young, potential Christian leaders who sense a call to ministry, to grow these emerging leaders through spiritual parenting or mentoring, godly relationships, education, training, and ministry experience, and to send out the next generation of ministers to fulfill the Great Commission. The purpose of this mixed-method phenomenological study was to explore and better understand the nature of the discovery, development, and deployment of a call to ministry for emerging leaders who are credentialed ministers with the North Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God and under 40 years of age at the …

There has been and continues to be a mass exodus of emerging adults that have stopped attending church services after they graduate high school. The purpose of this research study focuses on the similarities and differences between the current generation of emerging adults and earlier generation of young adults, other reasons why emerging adults have abandoned church, and how effective discipleship mentoring can be …

Developing An Intentional Disciple Making Strategy For Fathers To Lead Their Families In Spiritual Transformation, Michael Cauthorne
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Do current student ministries produce disciples that can stand the test of the current culture? Has creating a separate ministry worked against God’s plan for making disciples? Statistics from across the Church would suggest the American Church is in decline. Within the Southern Baptist Convention there has been a continual decline in baptisms over the past few years. This project will seek to determine if there is a correlation between how student ministries are led in the modern church to how effectively the church has been in making disciples. With research and data collected from current and former student ministries, …
Reproducing Lay Leaders In The Local Church Through Missional Mentoring, Jonathan A. Watson
Reproducing Lay Leaders In The Local Church Through Missional Mentoring, Jonathan A. Watson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
In many rural churches with 250 or fewer people in attendance each week, there is a need to properly train and prepare non-paid, volunteer laymen to serve in positions of leadership. Churches have been guilty of placing someone in an area of service with very little—or no—direction of what to do or how to properly lead. Without adequate training and leadership development, the spiritual growth of the ministry can be hindered as lay leaders are not equipped to effectively disciple those under their ministry. At Bible Baptist Church, the desire is to develop a missional mentoring ministry that will help …

Collaborating Mentors In The Discipleship Process, Tyson Wahl
Collaborating Mentors In The Discipleship Process, Tyson Wahl
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The researcher presents an action thesis conducted at Crossroads Family Ministries, studying multiple mentors’ effects in the discipleship process. Single mentor discipleship systems where one mentor disciples one mentee are common in many churches. However, placing one mentee with multiple mentors should produce better-discipled individuals with a greater experience and spiritual gift base from which to grow. This study aims to measure the effect collaborative mentoring has on a mentee during the discipleship process. The researcher has recruited five mentees and fifteen mentors to participate in this study. Four mentees are unfamiliar with the discipleship material and will each be …

A Model For Mentoring The Millennials Of The Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church To Perform Relevant Urban Ministry In Harlem, Cory Ryan Marshall
A Model For Mentoring The Millennials Of The Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church To Perform Relevant Urban Ministry In Harlem, Cory Ryan Marshall
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
According to one scholar, the millennial generation shares the same core values as the older generational cohorts within the Christian church. Though both groups share these values, the point of contention that arises is the way that ministry is performed. All these generations possess an ideal concerning the right way to execute the tasks associated with performing ministry but fail to realize that all generations have something valid to contribute to the conversation on the praxis of ministry. This is the attitude reflected at the Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist Church in Harlem, which is located in the Manhattan section of New …
Mentoring Worship Leaders To Become Mentoring Worship Leaders, Robert Todd Craig
Mentoring Worship Leaders To Become Mentoring Worship Leaders, Robert Todd Craig
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Although Jesus provides the biblical example for the process and significance of mentoring others, today’s ministry leaders often fail to take up this mantle. Much research exists on the value of mentoring, especially in the corporate world where those at the highest levels intentionally mentor those who display significant potential. Recent literature addresses the importance of ministry leaders mentoring others, such as veteran pastors showing those expressing a call to ministry how to be a minster. However, a gap exists in the body of literature regarding the importance of the mentoring relationship between veteran and novice worship leaders. Due to …
Mentorship Of The Female Worship Leader, Tammy L. Jarboe
Mentorship Of The Female Worship Leader, Tammy L. Jarboe
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
In recent years, some evangelical churches have seen a rise in the number of females involved in worship ministry leadership. Despite the female worship leader’s significant call to ministry, many challenges still exist in fulfilling God’s call on her life. Some of these challenges include clarity of call, difficulties in a male-saturated work environment, and perceived lack of opportunities for ministry. Additionally, some female worship leaders feel marginalized by the reluctance of churches to ordain them to the ministries in which they already serve. Although this paper will not address the question of whether women should or should not be …

The researcher surveyed 37 Christian women between the ages of 18 and 65 to explore their attitudes and views towards women mentoring one another in the church for discipleship …

Five Principles To Empower The Worship Leader, Stacey Brown
Five Principles To Empower The Worship Leader, Stacey Brown
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The role of the worship leader exists in most churches. These leaders serve in roles from volunteer choir directors to the directors of large worship staffs. They are the standard-bearers of worship for their teams and their congregations. To successfully serve, they must possess knowledge of worship practices and leadership skills. While students of worship may have a firm foundation of biblical, historical, and philosophical principles, many current leaders do not have strong leadership backgrounds and, therefore, lack basic foundational skills for leadership. Through a study of current literature and a survey of leaders of worship in churches of various …

Five Principles To Make And Multiply Disciples Through The Small Group Ministry, Timothy Yates
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The unchanging command of the Great Commission is to "make disciples" of all ethnic groups of the world. Unfortunately the church has struggled with her primary mission and has been grossly negligent in equipping church members to become Great Commission leaders. Therefore, this author will develop a small group training manual consisting of five principles to make and multiply disciples through the small group ministry. This manual will provide a laser focus on how to intentionally develop and deploy the common layman within the local church in order to reproduce disciples who reproduce disciples. As a small group pastor, this …
