Interview With Virginia Koch, Virginia Koch

In her January 13, 2015 interview with Michelle Dubert-Bellrichard, Virginia Koch shared the memories of her Winthrop experience from 1970-1974. Koch explains why she attended Winthrop, her experiences with Rat Week, and why she struggled to find a job in her major. Included are the details of why she left South Carolina, and the numerous positions she held thereafter. Koch also shares her perspectives on major transitions at Winthrop and in the South. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Oral History Program.

The Episcopal Churchwomen of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina Records consist of histories, minutes, reports, correspondence, financial records, program notes, photographs, newspaper clippings, journals, handbooks, yearbooks, and scrapbooks relating to the history of the Episcopal Church in the Upstate of South Carolina and women’s role in the Church. Of particular interest are the records relating to the Bishops Committee on Race Relations and the Bi-Racial Committee, which was concerned with a Voorhees College disturbance in which black power militants seized control of the college facilities in 1967.

The Rock Hill Council on Human Relations Records consists of minutes, reports, correspondence, program notes, newsletters, membership lists, and other records of a body organized in 1954 by the Rock Hill City Council to further communication between the city’s African- Americans and whites. The collection includes material relating to the South Carolina Council on Human Relations with which the Rock Hill Council was affiliated, American Friends Services committee, Southern Regional Council, and a black & white 16mm film pertaining to the origin and early development of the Council.
