It argues that the meaning of healing in 2 Chr 7:13–16 extends far beyond the physical healing of the land that results in agricultural blessings, and the theme of healing plays a significant role in the Chronicler’s theology of retribution, repentance, and restoration.

Ten Commandments Of Teaching: A Culminating Education Project, Charlene Martin Apr 2019

Ten Commandments Of Teaching: A Culminating Education Project, Charlene Martin

Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education

During a senior capstone course in instructional methods, teacher candidates participated in a discussion regarding what the essentials are for good teaching in light of biblical principles—a discussion integrating biblical principles and content knowledge acquired as they progressed through the College of Education. Genesis 1:26-28 indicates that mankind was created to rule over God’s earth in His name. Arguably, this mandate is the basis for all civilizations and cultures. From this perspective, one purpose of school could be to give students power tools for exercising dominion; school prepares students for work and their work declares the Glory of God. As …

Missa Arirang: A Fusion Of Korean And Western Music, Imgyu Kang Apr 2019

Missa Arirang: A Fusion Of Korean And Western Music, Imgyu Kang

Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for Christians in Higher Education

This article examines Korean nationalism in Cool-Jae Huh’s Missa Arirang; this sense of nationalism is an extension of a movement that began in the late 19th century. Missa Arirang utilizes elements from Arirang, a popular Korean folk song, in the context of a Missa, or Mass; the work consequently follows the typical structure of a Mass Ordinary. The first movement, Kyrie, morphs from Western to contemporary Korean style using predominantly Western techniques. The Gloria, which follows, symbolically brings peace between two feuding provinces by blending together their respective Arirang traditions, and the Credo continues to allude to provinces …

Spiritus: ORU Journal of Theology

Th is article is written to encourage a return to a position fi rmly entrenched in traditional Pentecostal and Charismatic eschatology that includes both comings of Jesus Christ in the proclamation of the Gospel. It develops the concept of the “Perfect/Complete Gospel of Both Comings of Jesus Christ,” identifying it as an emphasis in both historic Christianity in general and Pentecostal-Charismatic Christianity in particular. And in light of Oral Roberts’ vision received in August 2004, the article concludes with an exhortation to reconsider this proclamation in light of the imminent return of Jesus Christ.

South German Anabaptist Ecclesiology And Its Present-Day Pentecostal Counterpart, Mathew Clark Mar 2019

South German Anabaptist Ecclesiology And Its Present-Day Pentecostal Counterpart, Mathew Clark

Spiritus: ORU Journal of Theology

Th is article accepts that twentieth-century classical Pentecostalism originally shared a similar ethos to that exemplified among the South German Anabaptists, and investigates some resonances in ecclesiology between the two. Scrutiny of a selection of early sixteenth-century documents relating to Anabaptism identifies the following: a radically consistent application of sola scriptura, a rejection of the state-church synthesis, a revisioning of sacramental belief and practice that subverts the clergy-laity divide, commitment to the teachings of Jesus as the primary and central guide to discipleship, a sacrifi cial pilgrim mentality of “just passing through this world,” individual choice and responsibility to …
