The primary purpose of this thesis was to illustrate the creation of a successful independent record label. The research analyzed current music business trends in addition to general business literature. The guidelines of general business were adapted and transformed to meet the needs of a record label. Interviews with individuals that have expertise in music business were also conducted to accurately assist in the development of a record label. It was determined that several important elements must be addressed when starting a record label, they are: Your Business Description; Marketing Strategies; Analyzing the Competition, and Financial Planning concerns. The purpose of this project was to address the lack of scholarship on mid-twentieth century Haitian history and illustrate its significance. It employs primary and secondary sources in shaping a Gramscian historical narrative. Ideas of "everyday resistance" and internal and external politics are also be of significance to this work. In mid-twentieth century Haiti, the black-nationalist rhetoric of noirisme became the dominant political ideology. Blackness was amorphous and its application to politics was dependent upon class. Kingship, Rituals, And Power In Nepal, Nawaraj Chaulagain

Drawing on the ritual theory of “rebounding violence” as developed by Maurice Bloch, the contemporary anthropologist, the thesis examined some kingship rituals periodically observed in Nepal and highlighted their political implications. The study also made an assessment of the concept of “divine kingship” in orthodox “Hindu” tradition and traced connections between religion and politics.

In Nepal, kingship is taken as a symbol of sovereign power and national unity, and the king is often revered in public festivals as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, or as a representative of some other divinities such as Indra, Bhairava and the Buddha. The thesis …

Inspired by Kenneth Burke's dramatism, this thesis examined the viability of social movements rhetorical theory in its application to literature by focusing on the 1 9th century abolitionist movement in the United States and moving from the analysis of public speeches to fictional works.

Chapter one applied the rhetorical analysis of social movements to noteworthy speeches by William Lloyd Garrison and Francis Maria W. Stewart. Chapter two examined social movements rhetoric in The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. The purpose of this thesis is to provide a historical and musical analysis that illustrates characteristic features of musical compositions from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth century styles. The structural analysis of the pieces reveal the evolution in the musical expression regarding line, texture, form, and the technical skills employed by the composers through polyphonic, homophonic, and twelve-tone procedures.

The social scripts that are deeply involved in cultural production by AfroCuban identified artists in Miami, during the late nineties to the present, participate in a climate that is informed by and feeds from the so-called Latin Explosion of this time period. More specifically, varying historical, socioeconomic, and geopolitical trajectories have placed Africa and African-based religion and cultural production (via music and theatre) at the center of Cuban national identity. The Effects Of Rote And Note Teaching On The Performance Of High School Chorus, Radio Cremata

The purpose of this research is to compare the effects two different teaching techniques-rote and note--have upon high school chorus. Rote instruction involves teaching students who do not have music in front of them. Note instruction involves teaching students who do have music in front of them. The methodology counterbalanced two different high school choirs. Rote and note taught groups were taught four of the same 3-part SAB chorale settings type music. Two recordings were made of each song for each group - once after 30 minutes of instruction and second 24 hours later to test retention. Recordings were randomized …
