"The oldest Lutheran College in America" is a mark of distinction credited to Gettysburg. The Gospel Reaching Out newsletter was produced by the Hart County Gospel Music Association which was headquartered in Munfordville, Kentucky. The newsletter contained information and calendars related to “singings” and singing conventions in south central Kentucky, area singing groups, musical trends, and features about collectors, churches and enthusiasts as well as advertisements from sponsors. On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. The culture of tobacco has been associated with the history of Kentucky almost from the beginning and remains to this day a vital force in the state’s economy. In this age of scientific and technological advances – of increasing automation – we find that in tobacco farming, hand labor still figures prominently in the production of a major staple crop. This has resulted in the retention of traditional method, technology and terminology, long since lost in the culture of other crops which lent themselves more easily to mechanization.

The purpose of this study was to determine the importance of the southern dissenting clergy in the American Revolution. Rapidly growing in numbers in the quarter century before the Revolution, these men began to take places of leadership in which they could actively influence their communities. Even though their sermons were important sources of whig ideology, the clergy had a natural tendency to steer away from political involvement. This reluctance, along with their location outside the political and religious establishment in the South, forced them into a position of moderation rather than militant leadership regarding the issues leading to the …
