These items include materials from the Institute for the Arts within the College of Arts and Media at Marshall University from 1987-2007. Items were received in 2008 and include notable materials from the Institute including a Proposal for a BFA in Sacred Music, the Birke Writers Series in 1987-1988, the Tri-State Arts Forum from 1988-1990, and various programs of the 1980s. This is not an exhaustive list, but the attached inventory will give a broad overview of what is contained in each of the boxes.

In the last edition of The Cutting Edge I provided tips for locating fight-specific scenes. Now let’s narrow our search from the vast quantity of scenes to a playing field of only the best quality. For a Skills Proficiency Test (SPT), choreography comes first to ensure that the proper techniques are included within the fight. Following these lessons in technique and choreography, the scene selection process begins. In a traditional acting class, the scene selection occurs first and is followed by the explored action. It is one of the most daunting tasks: trying to find a strong fight scene for a Skills Proficiency Test or even a class project. The truth of the matter is that your main focus is to pass your skills test while hopefully leaving an impression on your peers(especially the adjudicator!). Passing, and hopefully receiving an Examiner’s Award for Excellence, is the best result; or if you are at a National Stage Combat Workshop, you could possibly receive a Certificate for Best Actress or Actor.
