Women's Work And Wealth: Measuring The Impact Of Incremental Liberations, 1850-1870, Hannah Kelly

Using a two-way fixed effects difference-in-difference model, this project analyzes data from the IPUMS Full Count census for 1850, 1860, and 1870 at a state level for 48 states. Four models assess the impact of property laws on women's real property holdings, labor force participation, household types, and real property values.

By quantifying the impact of various legal reforms on women's economic empowerment, this project fills a gap in the understanding of the intersection between law, society, and women's economic agency during a transformative period in pre-industrial American history. While much time is spent theorizing about philosophical concepts and theories, little thought has been given to the philosophy and psychology of philosophy itself. I argue that philosophy (or the act of philosophizing) should be considered a form of anxiety. I will examine whether or not philosophy should be evaluated as a mental disorder as well. Finally, I will explore the ways in which one can cope with the anxiety seen in philosophizing.

This study analyzes variables that increase the likelihood of women winning an election for the United States Congress spanning from 1970 to 2020. This study analyzes the relationship between how liberal the United States is and the likelihood of women winning elections. A dependent relationship was found between the level of liberalism rising in the US and women winning elections. Marianismo And Mental Health: A Cross-Sectional Study On Latina Perspectives, Sara Tilisky

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the correlational relationships between help seeking attitudes, marianismo, and mental health symptoms in a sample of Latinas. Marianismo is a Latina-specific value system based on the idea that women are to be self-sacrificing, chaste, and family oriented. Data from self-identified Latinas (N=77) were used to determine how degrees of adherence to marianista values correlate with various mental health symptoms and reported instances of professional help seeking attitudes. Results yielded a weak positive relationship between adherence to marianismo-like values and prevalence of mental health symptoms, and no relationship between adherence to …

Life Histories Of Refugees From Burma In Akron, Ohio, Megan Powley

This paper examines the life histories of members of the Karen refugee community in Akron, Ohio. This research was done to better understand the difficulties the community faces as the Karen adjust to life in the United States. The larger historical context of ethnic conflict in Burma, the country they fled, is explored before a discussion of the anthropological work that was undertaken by the author. Life histories, collected through interviews, were analyzed thematically. Finally, suggestions are made for ways to aid in the transition of the Karen with a focus on the process to gain U.S. citizenship.
