This paper explores the question of whether the history of Egypt has been repeating itself. Throughout the past 20th century Egypt has been in a continuous cycle of revolutions and authoritarian regimes. Hence, we can never be sure whether the recent 2011 Revolution will lead to something different than the regimes we have seen in the past. Nonetheless, this recent uprising could be the first break from the cycle. First we establish what a revolution and authoritarian regime are, to make sure that this has been true of Egyptian history.
