In the fall of 1907, Phineas F. Bresee sat down to meet with H.G. Trumbauer in Chicago, Illinois. Trumbauer was leader of the Pennsylvania Conference of the Holiness Christian Church, and met with Bresee to discuss a possible merger between his group from the east and Breese’s Church of the Nazarene. In Trumbauer’s personal journal we find the following account from that meeting. “I was admitted to the secret session of the commission of 14 or 15 men whose work it was to formulate discipline.
