Jerusalem lay in ruins. Its temple had been destroyed. In distant Babylon God’s people hung up their harps and sat down to weep. Where was God now? The Lutheran World Federation convention at Helsinki in 1963 was not able to reach agreement on a formulation of the doctrine of justification.
